How do you close the session on a DVD

I was having trouble buring a back up of a DVD that was given to me and I think that the problem is that the session was not closed

I used imgBurn and tried to go to tools -- Drive -- Close -- Session
but nothing happened

The source says please select a file but when i put the dvd in the drive and try to select it, it does not seem to work

what do you think I am doing wrong
