newbie needs help- how long should it take?

First, the disclaimer. I am completely computer inept. I refer to things as do-hickeys and thingamabobs. My apologies ahead of time.
I started using DVDShrink and ImgBurn last week to backup copies of DVDs. So far it has been working absolutely fine, except for RockyII (but that's the only "popular" title I've tried, I'm guessing "The lives of sea cucumbers" doesn't have the same copy protection). My only problem is that it takes about 4-7 hours to burn a DVD. It goes through one process, my external burner spits it out, then sucks it right back in and seems to start over. Is this normal? Is there anyway to speed it up? It happens on my laptop, which is pretty fast, and my desktop which is also pretty fast and has next to nothing (as far as programs and stuff) on it and tons of free disc space.

I have other questions, but I'll post those in the proper sections.
    Thanks.

I believe you have checked the "VERIFY" feature of the ImgBurn, which will make it cycle the tray. Is your resultant DVDs all right?

BTW, 6 to 7 hrs for Burn+Verify is way to much. For external writers time is generally taken more, but it should be within an hour for each DVD5.

I think we should take a look at a burn log.

If you open ImgBurn, Click on help, Click on (3rd item form the bottom) ImgBurn logs.
You show see a file ImgBurn.log It is a text file, double click on file,
you should see something like this.

            ; //****************************************\\
            ; ImgBurn Version 2.2.0.0 - Log
            ; Tuesday, 13 March 2007, 17:09:55
            ; \\****************************************//

Then lines of text under it, until you see the above again.

Just mark the text, right click, copy, then past into your post.

This is if you are saving Log.
