    ImgBurn Lockup

    Hi All,

I've been backing up my "Lord of the Rings" extended edition collection, using PgcEdit with ImgBurn, on Memorex DVD+R DL. I got through both "Fellowship of the Rings" discs and part I of "The Two Towers". PgcEdit set the layer break and everything burned fine. On part II of "The Two Towers" all was going well until I got to ImgBurn; things got hung up and at the bottom of the ImgBurn window it said "Setting L0 Data Zone Capacity...". Nothing further happened. I could hear my DVD drive spinning, but the burn didn't go forward.

I'm not terribly experienced with DL DVD's, but I can't imagine it's a disc or firmware issue when the first three DVD's backed up perfectly do everything the same.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you.

To add to Chewy's post - always post your ImgBurn log when you got a problem.

In the meantime, read and implement the Golden Rules of Burning - a firmware update may also be in order.

I tried again this morning; this time the "Setting L0 Data Zone Capacity..." message showed up again, but only for 50 seconds or so. Then it started writing. Then it got hung up at about 42% completion. That hadn't happened before Here is the log:

          Reply Part II - Firmware

I have a Samsung TS-H552B DVD dual layer recorder. It was OEM on my eMachines PC. The firmware version I currently have is GA04. I went to the Firmware Page and it looks as though the most recent version for Gateway OEM is still GA04. Is this correct? If not, how should I proceed?

I've been backing up/burning for a couple years now with this setup, and I can count the number of issues I've had while doing so on one hand. I'm guessing it WAS the Memorex DVD's, but I didn't pay anything for them, so it's not a big deal.

          Thank You.

this page is really messed up, I found reference to your firmware(gateway/emachine) in 2005 forum posts, so obviously your's is not new

            ftp://ftp.gateway.com/pub/hardware_s...rmwareGA05.exe

I found this link from a 2006 post

I would buy a new burner tho, never did like the 552B at all, an oem version would be worse

Again, thanks for all the help.

I upgraded the firmware to GA05; I have no plans to change burners at this time. As mentioned, I've been using this one for over two years and have had probably a 99% success rate with my burns.

As for the DVD DL's themselves, when buying I probably WILL go the Verbatim route, but for the time being you can't beat free samples.
