Help! I could use some advice here. I am still a beginner of sorts..can kinda feel my way around and have been using ImgBurn for over a year with great success. I am now getting a message indicating Devices not found when I start the program. Here is a copy of the log:

I 10:52:46 Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition (5.1, Build 2600 : Service Pack 2)
    I 10:52:46 Total Physical Memory: 1,038,412 KB - Available: 470,360 KB
    I 10:52:47 Initialising SPTI...
I 10:52:47 Searching for SCSI / ATAPI devices...
    W 10:52:47 No devices detected!

I don't know what to do. Can someone please help? Thanks to everyone in advance.

They're probably not visible in 'My Computer' either - correct?

Sounds like you've got a bad filter driver installed that's messing everything up.

Check the filter drivers in the Tools menu (and post the results here).

Next steps after that might be to unistall and reinstall the controllers and devices.

          Blu,

          Thanks for the reply.

Went into ImgBurn and checked the filter driver load order and for filter type it shows CD/DVD-ROM Device...and for version info when highlighted it shows a bunch of Unknown's all the way down. Hope that's what you were asking for. Don't know how to post the filter screen here, so I thought I would relay what I see for the device.

Was getting desperate and called the Dell Tech Helpline, since it's an XPS 200 Desktop. They were no help and in the end told me to back up all of my picture and music files as I would have to do a system restore that would wipe out all of my files, but would get my cd/dvd-r burner connected again. It is not showing up when I go into My Computer at all...

I am at a loss of what to do to get this situation rectified and what Dell has suggested seems so drastic to me...

these are the safe native xp filter drivers

the rest are an accident waiting to happen,
you have 2 choices try the dell solution till their crap gets corrupted again
or kill those other filters and test

slim drives don't hold up well so it may be dead, but I would clean house with Luk's tool, far easier to reload those programs than change the drive

                    Chewy,

Just want to make sure I understand your suggestion correctly...since I am pretty new at things like this..Are you suggesting I go into ImgBurn and delete all of the filters except the 2 you highlighted in your last post? and then try ImgBurn again and see if it makes a difference?

yes but reboot after removing the filters then test

why would anybody put a slim drive in a desktop?

                      to save an inch?

tell dell what you have done to try and get the drive to work, is it still under warranty?

If not then I would get a usb external drive and use it

                            Those other filters are unnecessary.

Now try uninstalling the IDE controller and rebooting.
