    Writing Speed is different from setting

    I setted writing speed x2, but the actual speed is x4.
    Anything wrong method? This media can be setted only 4x, 6x, 8x in this drive?

    You burner was designed to burn at up to 16X, those disks at up to 8X, your drive has a firmware which determines the allowed burn speed

    If there was a way to burn slower than 4X it would probably make a bad burn

    turning off dma will give you a 1X burn and probably a coaster

      Wouldn't FAT32 have something to do with it ?

        @Chewy

        This media itself is maximum 4x, and this burner(Plextor) judges possible to burn 8x.
        I tried to burn with 2x, because quality of 4x was bad.
        I've ever thought to be slower is better for quality if bad quality.
        You explained it is incorrect if slower than 4x. Thanks.

        @BR7
        Whether FAT32 or NTFS will be nothing to do with burning speed.

        Regards.

          those disks are pretty old, they quit making them over 2 years ago, in their day they were considered class A media, I didn't explain anything incorrectly afaik, your firmware simply assumes they were capable of being burned at 8x with good results

          I had similar ricoh 4x dvd+r's that I got 200 of in a clearance sale, they burned great up to 12x, all supported by firmware on 4 drives

            Yes, these media is old. I always use -R media, so I bought these +R media when get burner which supports +R but not used till now.

            I'll burn remaining media at 8x next time according to your suggestion.

            What I thought at first was because of my experience like below,
            *Yuden media(-R) of 8x (drive can burn at 4x 6x 8x 12x 16x) => quality of 4x was better than 6x and 8x.
            *Maxell media(-R) of 8x (drive can burn at 4x 6x 8x) => quality of 4x was better than 8x.
            *Mitsubishi(=Verbatim) media(+R/DL) of 2.4x (drive can burn at 2.4x 6x 8x) => quality of 2.4x was better than 6x and 8x.

            Regards.

              well your firewire chip and enclosure may be the problem, implementation of the 1394 standard isn't always optimal

              most people don't have any problem up to 12x using firewire

              I rarely found 4x to be better than 8x, they were usually equal

                I'm not going to say problem(at least -R media). Difference of replayed image is not clear, I compared PIE/PIF/TA by plextor tools.

                About +R/DL, burning at 6x obviously caused the problem(error or block noise or pause at LayerBreak).

                Regards.

                    Sorry I missed. Plex can burn verb dl at 4x.

                    "*Mitsubishi(=Verbatim) media(+R/DL) of 2.4x (drive can burn at 2.4x 4x 6x) => quality of 2.4x was better than 6x."
                    is correct in post #6.

                    Regards.
