Sony to discontinue 80GB PS3, says retailer memo

Best Buy will discontinue the sale of the $499 PlayStation 3 on January 28, says an alleged store "closeout" memo obtained by PS3 Fanboy.

If you want PS2 compatibility, better get down to your local store and see if they still have the 80GB model in stock.

Here is a rumor that came out today>First time I have seen this site so I don't know if they are reliable.

"Sony is, in fact, phasing out the 80GB PS3. Sony is going to stay with the two-SKU approach though, and the prices look to stay the same," the mole told me. I heard sirens in the background, and the mole seemed nervous. "The Spiderman 3 pack-in will disappear as well once the 80GB unit is gone. In order to maintain a similar value proposition to the 80GB/Spiderman 3 bundle, I expect to see a storage increase to 120 or 160GB at the same price point, plus the new Dual-Shock 3 controller"

There was also a rumoured $299 price drop, but not sure if it has been disproven already or not (I think Sony denied it already). In Australia, we are getting a new more expensive bundle (the current 40 GB PS3, sometimes comes with 3 free Blu-ray movies, is priced at $AUD 699):

This the details of the PS3 offer starting today, $799 bundle, includes PS3 Console, Sixaxis Controller, and one of the following games: Heavenly Sword, Uncharted : Drakes's Fortune, Ratch & Clank, NBA 08
I prefer the lower priced package to be honest (although I got mine for $688 with 3 free movies and the official Blu-ray remote - much better value than the new pack above)
