For the week ending 19 October 2024, here are the stats:

Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K market share dropped back slightly, but still remained at a high level as the October Prime Day event winded down.

Several new 4K titles were still released during the week, the top-selling of which was the 4K and 4K SteelBook release of A Nightmare on Elm Street, which was second on the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart (first on the 4K chart).

The 4K SteelBook release of Thanksgiving was 8th (2nd on the 4K chart).

The 4K and 4K SteelBook release of The Ring was 9th (3rd on the 4K chart).

Continuing on, the 4K release of To Catch a Thief was 13th (6th on the 4K chart), while the 4K release of Cowboys & Aliens was 17th (9th on the 4K chart).

The Project A Collection didn't sell enough copies to make it into the combined top 20, but it was 18th on the 4K chart.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: Every previously listed new release had 4K editions. Every single title out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions!

Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray Sales Share:

The BD sales share is the percentage of disc packages sold for that contained the titles's Blu-ray edition (including combos, and Ultra HD editions) for a particular title. So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

None of the new releases this week had DVD editions, and so there's nothing to report in terms of BD sales share.

Only "The Project A Collection" had both 4K and standard Blu-ray editions, but the 4K edition didn't sell enough to get into the 4K sales share top 20.

The stats for the week ending October 21, 2023 are as follows.

The combined 4K UHD and Blu-ray market share decreased from 50.5% to 42.0%. This time last year was the week "Barbie" was released, which explains the large discrepancy in 4K and Blu-ray market share.

Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K weekly market share surged thanks to a few releases, but more importantly, Amazon's second Prime sales day of the year. DVD market share dropped below 50% for the first time in quite a while.

For the new releases, the top-seller was A Quiet Place: Day One, topping both the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart as well as the 4K only chart. MaXXXine was second on the combined chart (3rd on the 4K chart - it wasn't available on DVD).

Arcane: League of Legends - Season One on Blu-ray and 4K was 4th (2nd on the 4K chart).

The 25th Anniversary 4K SteelBook edition of Sleepy Hollows was 10th (5th on the 4K chart).

And finally, Castlevania: Nocturne - Season One on Blu-ray was 18th (not available on 4K).

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: Only "Castlevania: Nocturne - Season One" wasn't available on 4K. Every single title out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions!

"A Quiet Place: Day One", the only title this week that a standalone DVD edition along with a 4K/Blu-ray edition, had a BD sales share of 54.24%

In terms of 4K sales share, "Arcane: League of Legends - Season One" had a 4K sales share of 69.17%, while "MaXXXine" got 40.92%. "A Quiet Place: Day One" got 26%.

Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K market share dropped back due to lack of new releases, both in terms of quality and quantity.

The top-ranked new release in the top 20 combined Blu-ray and 4K chart was actually the Blu-ray boxset release of The West Wing, in 13th place, and that was it for the combined chart.

On the 4K only chart, the 4K boxset Paramount Scares Vol. 2 was 6th, while the Amazon Exclusive 4K SteelBook version of Imaginary was 17th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: Of this week's three new releases, only "The West Wing" wasn't available on 4K. 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

The large discrepancy is due to the large number of 4K releases from the same week last year, which included "Prey", "Talk to Me", plus 4K exclusives like "The Mist", "Scream 3", "It Came From Outer Space", and "Evil Dead Rise".

Top 20:

4K and Blu-ray weekly market share both grew thanks to the release of a couple of big movies and quite a few 4k only releases. Despicable Me 4 and Bad Boys: Ride or Die were the top 2 sellers on the combined Blu-ray and 4K sales chart, although on the 4K chart "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" was top and "Despicable Me 4" was third. Bad Boys 4-Movie Collection was 10th (not available on 4K).

Longlegs (4K trailer) was third (second on the 4K chart), and the 4K SteelBook release of Stardust was 5th (4th on the 4K chart).

The Arrow 4K limited edition release of 2009's Friday the 13th was 7th (5th on the 4K chart). Another 4K only release, the 40th anniversary SteelBook version of Body Double was 9th (6th on the 4K chart).

Continuing outside of the top 10, the 4K only release of the Mad Max 5-Movie Collection was 13th (7th on the 4K chart).

The Criterion release of Happiness was 14th (9th on the 4K chart), and finally in the combined top 20, the Blu-ray only release of Kite: Integral Version was 19th.

Continuing to new releases that only made the 4K only chart, the 4K release of Murder on the Orient Express was 10th.

Friends: The Complete Series is on 4K for the first time and was 15th, while the 4K release of Village of the Damned was 16th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: As mentioned earlier, only "Bad Boys 4-Movie Collection" wasn't made available on 4K. 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Of the new releases that had both a 4K/Blu-ray and standalone DVD edition, "Longlegs" had the best BD sales share, with 66.75%. "Bad Boys 4-Movie Collection" was the next best, with 52.57%, just ahead of "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" with 50.81%.

"Despicable Me 4" failed to get over 50%, with 48.89%.

For 4K, "Longlegs" had a 4K sales share of 29.57%, just ahead of "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" with 21.97%.

The week's top-seller "Despicable Me 4" got 9.39%.

Top 20:

"Inside Out 2" still led the sales charts, but this week's top-selling new release was the Paramount Presents 4K only edition of Bringing Out the Dead, in third place (first on the 4K only top 20 chart).

The 4K restoration edition of The Chronicles of Riddick, on both 4K and Blu-ray, was the next best-selling new release in 5th place (2nd on the 4K chart).

Reacher: Season Two was the last of the new releases in the top 20, in 9th place (was not in the 4K top 20).

Two more releases were in the 4K only top 20. The 4K edition of Doomsday was 10th and the Criterion edition of The Long Good Friday on 4K and Blu-ray was 13th.

Top 20:

The year's biggest movie, Inside Out 2, was the clear number one this week on both the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart as well as the 4K only chart. This release was responsible for the big jump in Blu-ray weekly sales share, up from 20.9% to 31.3%.

In a distant second was Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1.

Late Night With the Devil was 4th (only available on a SteelBook Blu-ray, not available on 4K), while the Paramount+ series Knuckles was 5th (18th on the 4K chart).

Moving further down, The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live - Season 1 was made available as a Blu-ray SteelBook and DVD, and it was 6th. Kill (4K and Blu-ray editions only) was 8th.

The Wal-Mart Exclusive 4K SteelBook of Wind River was 18th, and in 19th, we have the Criterion edition of All of Us Strangers on 4K and Blu-ray.

There were a couple of more releases on the 4K only chart.

The 4K edition of The Stepfather was 12th, just ahead of the 4K edition of The Strangers in 13th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: "Late Night with the Devil", "The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live - Season 1" didn't have 4K editions. 7 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

On the 4K chart, "Kill" had the best 4K sales share with 66.25%. "Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter 1" got 16.02%, "Inside Out 2" with 9.91%. "Knuckles" got 6%.

"All of Us Strangers" didn't rank high enough on the 4K sales share chart.

Top 20:

A pretty quiet week in terms of new releases with all of the releases being 4K re-releases. This explains the lower-than-average market share for Blu-ray and 4K.

The 4K release of Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street was actually the highest ranked new release on the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart, at 9th - it was second on the 4K only chart.

The 4K release of A League of Their Own was the next best seller, in 14th (5th on the 4K chart). And that was pretty much it for the combined chart. There were a couple of more new releases on the 4K only chart.

The Criterion version of Repo Man was 9th on the 4K chart, followed by the 4K edition of The Amityville Horror in 10th.

Top 20:

4K and Blu-ray market share improved slightly thanks to the release of Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (4K trailer), which easily outsold everything else this week including The Garfield Movie, which was second. The former did have 4K editions and was also top of the 4K only chart, the latter wasn't available on 4K.

The 4K SteelBook edition of Drive was 3rd on the combined chart (second on the 4K only chart).

Star Trek: Discovery - The Final Season was 5th (it wasn't available on 4K, but there was a SteelBook edition). Watchmen: Chapter I was 7th (14th on the 4K chart, not available on DVD).

Outside of the top 10, The Watchers (4K trailer) was 13th (17th on the 4K chart), the 4K boxset The Mexico Trilogy was 17th (6th on the 4K chart).

There were two more new releases on the 4K only chart, the 4K editions of Sudden Death in 8th and Poltergeist II: The Other Side in 9th.

"Star Trek: Discovery - The Final Season" led the BD sales share chart for this week's new releases, with 70.95%. "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" got 59.91%, with "The Garfield Movie" getting less than 50% at 47.27%.

"The Watchers" got a disappointing 39.27%.

For 4K sales share, "Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes" was on top of the other new releases with 29.57%, followed by "Watchmen: Chapter I" with 28.89%. "The Watchers" got 13.96%.

Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K sales share dropped again following last week's high due to the release of "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga". It's a much quieter week in terms of new releases, with most of them being re-releases of older titles.

The top-selling new release on the combined 4K and Blu-ray chart was the 4K SteelBook edition of 2013's Evil Dead. It was second on the 4K chart, still below "Furiosa".

The two-movie boxset creatively titled When Titans Ruled the Earth: Clash of the Titans/Wrath of the Titans, available as both a 4K package and a standard Blu-ray one, was 11th on the combined chart (3rd on the 4K chart).

The Last Unicorn has been released on 4K, in both a standard 4K package as well as a Wal-Mart exclusive SteelBook - it was 14th (4th on the 4K chart). Another Wal-Mart 4K SteelBook exclusive was for Joker, in 17th (10th on the 4K chart).

The 4K release of Can’t Hardly Wait was 19th (8th on the 4K chart).

There was one more new release on the 4K only chart, Red Eye was 14th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: Every single new release had a 4K edition or were 4K only releases. Every single title out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions!

None of the new releases were available on DVD, and so there's no BD sales share to report.

Only "When Titans Ruled the Earth: Clash of the Titans/Wrath of the Titans" had both a 4K and Blu-ray edition, and it looks like Arrow probably shouldn't have bothered with the standard Blu-ray edition as it barely sold any copies - 98.65% of copies sold were for the 4K edition.

Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K sales share both rose thanks to a couple of new releases, although it was mostly down to the top-seller. The top-selling new release, and also the week's overall top-seller, was Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga (it was top of both the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart, and the 4K only chart).

It easily outsold the second-placed IF (4th on the 4K chart).

The Bikeriders was 3rd (second on the 4K chart). It was then all the way down to 12th for the next new release, Chucky: Season Three (it wasn't made on 4K).

There were a couple of more new releases on the 4K only chart. The 4K Criterion version of The Last Emperor was 14th on the 4K chart, the 4K edition of The Delta Force was 15th, and Game Night was 16th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: Only "Chucky: Season Three" wasn't made available on 4K. Every single title out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions!

"Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" topped the BD sales share with 71.61%. "The Bikeriders" had 54.36%, and "IF" failed to break through the 50% barrier with 48.30%.

"Chucky: Season Three" managed 44.53%.

For 4K releases (that at the very least had a standard Blu-ray release), "Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga" again was top, with 42.57%, "The Bikeriders" had 18.39%, and "IF" got 7.17%.

Top 20:

4K sales share was up, Blu-ray sales share was down, as we have a week where new releases were light on the ground again.

We have only three 4K releases in the top 20 this week, and the 4K SteelBook edition of Collateral was the best-selling of the lot, coming in at 9th on the combined 4K and Blu-ray chart (second on the 4K only chart).

Bill & Ted’s Most Triumphant Trilogy was the only other new release in the combined top 20, at 16th (6th on the 4K chart). On the 4K only chart, the 4K SteelBook release of Hackers was also new, coming in at 9th.

And that was it for new releases this week.

Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K market share dropped back a bit. The best-seller for the week was The First Omen, but it was only 5th on the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart (it wasn't available on 4K).

Ted Lasso: The Richmond Way is another one that wasn't available on 4K, and it was 7th on the combined chart.

The limited 4K and Blu-ray edition of The Man From U.N.C.L.E was 15th (6th on the 4K only chart).

On the 4K only chart, the Paramount Presents 4K edition of Election was 10th. The 4K edition of The Lady From Shanghai was 13th, the 4K and Blu-ray editions of No Way Out was 16th, and the 25th anniversary 4K edition of Run Lola Run was 19th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: As mentioned earlier, "The First Omen" and "Ted Lasso: The Richmond Way" weren't made available on 4K. 8 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Top 20:

New releases, and perhaps a hangover from the Amazon Prime Day sales, meant that 4K and Blu-ray market share was once again higher than that for DVDs.

The best-selling new release for the week, and the overall top-seller, was The Fall Guy - it was second on the 4K only chart.

The next new release was in 4th place, the 4K and Blu-ray only release of Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three (9th on the 4K chart).

The Strangers: Chapter 1 was the next new release in 8th (11th on the 4K chart).

The Criterion edition of Risky Business on 4K and Blu-ray was 11th (6th on the 4K chart).

Halo: Season Two was 13th (also 13th on the 4K chart). And finally, in 20th, was Arcadian (it was not made available on 4K).

As usual, there were a couple more new releases in the 4K, but only in the top 20. Jaws 3, available in a 4K and 4K SteelBook edition, was 12th on the 4K chart. Jaws: The Revenge was 16th.

"The Strangers: Chapter 1" actually had the best BD sales share out of all the new releases this week that had separate DVD editions, with 70.14%.

"The Fall Guy" was next with 63.77%. "Halo: Season Two" got 53.70%. "Arcadian" got 45.10%.

On 4K, looking at the releases that had both separate 4K and Blu-ray editions, "Risky Business" got a 4K sales share of 73.64%, "Halo: Season Two" got 35.35%, "The Fall Guy" had 29.72%, "The Strangers: Chapter 1" managed 25.28%, and "Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths - Part Three" 21.12%.

The full brunt of Amazon Prime Day happened this reporting week, and the top 10 is fully reflective of this, as on-sale titles flood into the top 10. There are turns to the top 10 for Oppenheimer, The Thing, and The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy, as well as a return to the top 20 for older releases like Back to the Future: The Ultimate Trilogy and Blade Runner: The Final Cut.

There was a single new release in the top 20 though, and that was the 4K release for The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. It was 12th on the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart and 6th on the 4K chart.

Top 20:

A good week for Blu-ray and 4K as their combined sales share powered through the 50% barrier. If you look at the top 10 below, you may be hard-pressed to see which A-list release is responsible, but it wasn't so much that, as a combination of everything. This is because Amazon Prime Day took place just a few days after this reporting period, and as is the case recently, 4K and Blu-ray (and DVD) deals started to flow through a few days earlier - right at the end of this current reporting period. Another factor was that quite a few of this week's new releases weren't made available on DVD - perhaps a new trend emerging due to the continued decline of physical media.

With that said, this week's top-seller, Civil War, did well and was clear at the top of the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart. It was also the top-selling title on the 4K only chart, although no DVD only release was available.

In a somewhat distant second was The Boy and the Heron (3rd on the 4K chart - no DVD edition was made available, although a SteelBook version was).

Abigail was third on the combined chart (no 4K version was available), while the 4K re-release of Twister (along with a Limited Edition SteelBook) was 5th (second on the 4K chart).

Then it was all the way down to 8th for the next new release, Boy Kills World (5th on the 4K chart - no DVD edition was made available). Unsung Hero was 9th (no 4K edition was available) and that was it for new releases in the top 10.

Outside of the top 10, Challengers was 11th (not available on 4K), and the Blu-ray only release of Doctor Who: Tom Baker - Complete Season Four was 12th.

There was one more new release in the 4K only top 20, the 4K Criterion release of Le Samouraï, in 16th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: Other than "Abigail", "Unsung Hero", "Challengers", and "Doctor Who: Tom Baker - Complete Season Four", everything else was available on 4K or were 4K exclusives. 8 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.
