Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue continues to creep downwards toward historic lows as another week goes by without any major new movie releases. The best selling new release was a 4K re-issue of the classic John Carpenter film They Live. It came 6th.

Closely behind in 7th was another new release, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Part 2.

Now coming out of the top 10, in 16th, was the next new release, another Shout Factory John Carpenter 4K re-issue, this time for Prince of Darkness.

And better late than never, the 4K release of 2012 rounds off the top 20 in 19th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: The only new release in the top 20 that wasn't a 4K only release was "Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba - Part 2", and it didn't have a UHD edition. 7 titles in this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

In our new regular feature where we pine for days past, this time last year we had new releases "Zombieland: Double Tap", "The Addams Family", "Jay & Silent Bob Reboot" and "Black and Blue" in the top 10. This was the week last year when Wuhan went into full lockdown, by the way.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $8.89m (down 40.9%), with unit sales down 39.7%.

DVD sales decreased by $3.55m (down 14.3%), with unit sales down 10.1%.

This meant $12.44 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share decreased from 46.70% to 37.67%

Top 10:

There were four new releases in the top 10, but despite this, Blu-ray revenue stayed at the lows that have become the norm in recent weeks.

Batman: Soul of the Dragon was the top-selling new release and overall top seller for the week, even outselling "Tenet".

Also new was Fatman in 3rd place, followed by Synchronic in 4th.

Doom Patrol: The Complete Second Season was the other new release, in 15th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only "Batman: Soul of the Dragon" was available on UHD. 7 titles in this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

"Batman: Soul of the Dragon" led the BD sales share chart with a BD sales share of 78.56%. "Synchronic" got 52.15%. "Fatman" got 48.46%, and "Doom Patrol: The Complete Second Season" got 40.57%.

On UHD, "Batman: Soul of the Dragon" got a BD sales share of 17.17%.

In our new regular feature where we pine for days past, this time last year we had new releases "Terminator: Dark Fate", "Parasite", and "Harriet" in the top 10.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $8.19m (down 38.9%), with unit sales down 34.7%.

DVD sales decreased by $3.93m (down 15.8%), with unit sales down 12.2%.

This meant $12.12 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue continued to slide as only two new releases were present in the Blu-ray sales top 20.

Let Him Go was the top-selling new release as well as the overall top-seller for the week, outselling last week's number one, "Batman: Soul of the Dragon".

Then it was all the way down in 19th for the next new release, the 4K re-release of Do the Right Thing.

The lack of new releases and the waning popularity of "Tenet" means that this week's Blu-ray results are the lowest since last October.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: "Let Him Go" wasn't made available on UHD. 7 titles in this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

DVD sales decreased by $3.47m (down 13.7%), with unit sales down 10.8%.

This meant $9.86 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue improved slightly off the backs of two fairly good release, which were the top 2 sellers for the week ending February 13, 2021. Greenland and Freaky were those two titles, although "Greenland" easily outsold "Freaky", at least on Blu-ray.

There was only one other new release in the top 20, Jiang Ziya (Legend of Deification), in 15th.

The two new releases helped Blu-ray revenue rise to a 6 week high.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: None of this week's three new releases in the top 20 were made available on UHD. 6 titles in this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

"Freaky" narrowly beat "Greenland" in terms of BD sales share, 51.46% versus 50.21%. But both missed out to "Jiang Ziya (Legend of Deification)", which got 52.30%.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue continued its drop towards record lows as the week's most popular new release was the Korean film The Swordsman. It sold enough copies to get a third-place finish in this week's Blu-ray top 10.

No less than four other new releases were in the top 20, including My Hero Academia: Season Four, Part Two in 6th, The Informer in 8th, Harley Quinn: The Complete First and Second Seasons in 18th and Lovecraft Country: The Complete First Season in 19th.

But despite the quantity of new releases, the lack of quality, even say to the level of "Greenland" last week, meant that Blu-ray revenue had to fall.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: None of this week's new releases were made available on UHD. Only 4 titles in this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

"The Swordsman" led the BD sales share chart this week with a BD sales share of 69.74%. "Lovecraft Country: The Complete First Season" just missed out on getting over 50% with 49.50%, while "The Informer" had to settle for 38.64%. The other two new releases were Blu-ray only ones.

No new UHD releases this week, but at the top of the UHD sales share chart was "The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy" with 28.80%.

Top 10:

A decent release happened this week and as a result, Blu-ray revenue rose slightly. The Croods: A New Age was that release, and it was easily the top-selling Blu-ray for the week. A related release was in a distant second place, The Croods 2-Movie Collection.

There was another new release in 4th place, Wrong Turn, while it's all the way down to 18th for the next and final new release in the top 20, the Blu-ray only release Pump Up the Volume.

But it was all thanks to "Croods 2" that Blu-ray revenue rose by $3 million over the last week.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only "The Croods: A New Age" was made available on UHD (just the single movie version, not the two movie collection). Only 5 titles in this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

So don't be too scared of the big red numbers you see below, very few titles could stand up to "Frozen II" in a normal year, let alone during a pandemic.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $30.15m (down 66.7%), with unit sales down 62.4%.

DVD sales decreased by $12.24m (down 34.9%), with unit sales down 27.9%.

This meant $42.39 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Despite the release of Monster Hunter, Blu-ray revenue fell compared to the last week.

"Monster Hunter" only came second on the Blu-ray top 10 chart though, selling fewer copies than "The Croods: A New Age" for the week.

There were two other new releases in the top 20, with Fatale in 5th and "War of the Worlds" 4K Best Buy Exclusive SteelBook in 15th.

A b-grade action flick and a Best Buy 4K exclusive were the only new releases in the entire top 20 this week, as Blu-ray revenue resumed its slide.

Jackie Chan's Vanguard was that new release, in 4th place, while Best Buy's 4K steelbook re-release of the much superior action flick Dredd was 8th.

Top 10:

Both Blu-ray and DVD revenue increased compared to last week, at roughly the same percentage, and so weekly Blu-ray market share remained largely the same.

There were five new releases in the top 20, but the best-selling of which was Promising Young Woman, coming in at 3rd on the Blu-ray sales charts.

The Steelbook edition of Rad was the next new release in 5th, while PG: Psycho Goreman just missed out on a top 10 finish, at 11th.

The Legend of Korra: The Complete Series debuts in 13th place, while Don’t Tell a Soul rounded off the new releases in the top 20, coming in at 15th.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue rose slightly off the backs of Pixar's latest animated hit, Soul. The animated film, having been originally released on Disney+, easily outsold second placed, and also newly released, News of the World.

Three re-releases on Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray were the rest of the new releases in the top 20. 2014's Godzilla gets a new 4K Blu-ray release and came in 5th, while the Collector's Edition of Event Horizon on Blu-ray was in 8th.

And Gattaca also saw a SteelBook 4K re-release (the standard edition is coming later in the year), coming in 12th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: "Soul" and "News of the World" were both available on 4K Ultra HD, in addition to the 4K re-releases. 8 titles in this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

The BD sales share for a particular title is the percentage of disc packages sold for this title that contained the film's Blu-ray edition (including combos, and Ultra HD editions). So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

"Soul" had a BD sales share of 76.69%, which compares well to "News of the World" with only 41.51%. The other releases were all Blu-ray exclusives, so technically, they would have a 100% BD sales share.

For 4K UHD sales share, for the non-exclusive releases, "Soul" managed a UHD sales share of 10.70%, while "News of the World" got 7.52%.

Blu-ray: $20.35 million
DVD: $25.11 million

In our new regular feature where we pine for days past, this time last year we had the new releases "1917", and "The Grudge: The Untold Chapter" in the top 10.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $1.61m (down 7.9%), with unit sales down 6.7%.

DVD sales increased by $2.33m (up 9.3%), with unit sales up 7.0%.

This meant $0.72 million more in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share decreased from 44.76% to 40.58%

Top 10:

The release of Wonder Woman 1984 and the pre-Easter sales bump helped Blu-ray revenue rise above $20 million. It was actually the only "new" new release in the top 20, except for the Wonder Woman 2-Film Pack in 6th place.

There was the 4K re-release of The Ten Commandments in 5th place.

In terms of comparing to last year's pre-Easter bump, which was quite disappointing as it occurred in the middle of the COVID-19 lockdown (down $23.90 million compared to 2019's same period!), this year's was slightly better, albeit only slightly. Blu-ray revenue fell by $1.82 million, but DVD rose by $3.92 million.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Both the standalone and 2-film pack for "Wonder Woman 1984" were made available on 4K Ultra HD. Every single title in this week's top 10 had UHD editions!

In our new regular feature where we pine for days past, this time last year we had the new releases "Star Wars: Episode IX - The Rise of Skywalker", and "Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga - 9-Movie Collection" in the top 10.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $12.75m (down 36.9%), with unit sales down 21.5%.

DVD sales increased by $3.31m (up 12.1%), with unit sales up 12.4%.

This meant $9.44 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share decreased from 55.79% to 41.53%

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue fell back down to earth again thanks to the Easter sales lull, and even a couple of new releases couldn't prevent Blu-ray revenue from falling below the $15 million mark.

In term of new releases, the one that ranked highest on the Blu-ray sales chart was Shadow in the Cloud in 4th, followed by Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar in 7th.

And in 10th was Earwig and the Witch.

This year's post-Easter lull was a poor one even compared to last year's middle of the lockdown effort. Blu-ray revenue was down $5.11 million!

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: None of this week's new releases were made available on 4k UHD. 7 titles out of the top 10 had UHD editions.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue was at its lowest point in 2021 so far with far and few quality new releases occurring during the week.

Willy's Wonderland was the best selling new release for the week, coming in a distant second to "Wonder Woman 1984".

The only other new title in the top 20 was the 4K (and standard Blu-ray) re-release of Spaceballs, in 18th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Other than "Spaceballs", there were no other new 4K releases in the top 20. 8 titles out of the top 10 had UHD editions.

Top 10:

Blu-ray sales declined to their lowest level since August 30, 2009 as the lack of new releases, largely due to the pandemic, has hit disc sales once again.

The only new release in the entire top 20 was the special edition release of the 2003 South Korean film Memories of Murder by acclaimed director Bong Joon Ho ("Snowpiecer", "Parasite"), and it didn't even come anywhere near the top spot, coming in at 8th.

With mid-late April traditionally being a quiet period for Blu-ray, this and the lack of new releases meant that Blu-ray revenue fell to levels not seen in 12 years.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Unfortunately, "Memories of Murder" wasn't made available on 4K. 7 titles out of the top 10 had UHD editions.

DVD sales decreased by $8.21m (down 28.4%), with unit sales down 27.0%.

This meant $18.26 million less in combined revenue for the week.
