    Stats:

For the week ending July 9, 2022, here are the stats:

    Percentage of revenue (MPN):
    Blu-ray vs DVD: 45.94% vs 54.06%

Blu-ray sales total spending: $14.30 million
DVD sales total spending: $16.83 million

These stats are available from here:

    Media Play News

    Top 10:

Fan-favourite and the better of this year's multiverse movies, Everything Everywhere All at Once was the top-selling title for the week.

It was joined by Downton Abbey: A New Era in third, and Memory in 6th.

Edge of Tomorrow gets a 4K release for the first time, and re-enters the top 10 in 7th, while the Criterion Collection version of Netflix's Okja was 15th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: All of this week's new releases (in the top 20) had 4K editions or were 4K only releases like "Edge of Tomorrow", except for "Memory". 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
    1. Everything Everywhere All at Once+
    2. Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore+
    3. Downton Abbey: A New Era+
    4. The Bad Guys+
    5. Morbius+
    6. Memory
    7. *Edge of Tomorrow+
    8. The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent+
    9. The Batman+
    10. Spider-Man: No Way Home+

Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray Sales Share:

The BD sales share is the percentage of disc packages sold for that contained the titles's Blu-ray edition (including combos, and Ultra HD editions) for a particular title. So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

"Everything Everywhere All at Once" had the best BD sales share of this week's new releases, with a super high 88.33% (I guess this is the dimension where people didn't want to buy the DVD version of this film). "Downton Abbey: A New Era" was all the way down the chart, with 47.59%, but was still better than "Memory" at 45.50%.

For 4K sales share, "Okja" did best with 71.98% opting for the 4K release instead of the standard Blu-ray one. "Everything Everywhere All at Once" did well too with 43.95%, while "Downton Abbey: A New Era" had to settle for 4%.

For the week ending July 2, 2022, here are the stats:

    Percentage of revenue (MPN):

Blu-ray sales total spending: $13.89 million
DVD sales total spending: $17.14 million

    Top 10:

New release Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore was the top-selling title for the week. There were only two other new releases in the top 10, True Romance: Limited Edition in 6th and Doctor Who: Eve of the Daleks & Legend of the Sea Devils.

Despite the new "Fantastic Beasts" movie being a bit of a disappointment box-office wise, it still helped Blu-ray revenue rise slightly compared to last week.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Both "Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore" and "True Romance: Limited Edition" both had 4K editions. Every single title in this week's top 10 had UHD editions!

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):

"Doctor Who: Eve of the Daleks & Legend of the Sea Devils" actually had the best BD sales share of this week's three releases, with a BD sales share of 63.91%. "Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore" wasn't too far behind with 61.76%.

On 4K, "True Romance" managed a 4K sales share of 91.20%, meaning almost everyone bought the 4K editions over the Blu-ray only edition of this classic movie. "Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore" had a 4K sales share of 14.56%, which is only average, to be honest.

    Top 10:

The Bad Guys was the week's top-selling new release, coming in second place, behind last week's number one, "Morbius".

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent was in third place, not too far behind "The Bad Guys".

It was then all the way down to 15th for the next new release, the Best Buy exclusive 4K SteelBook release of Universal Soldier.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Both "The Bad Guys" and "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent" were made available on 4K. Every single title in this week's top 10 had UHD editions!

On 4K, "The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent" continued its good run with a 4K sales share of 32.14%, ahead of the 10.02% earned by "The Bad Guys".

The sea of red you see below is kind of unfair for this week, as it was up against this time last year when the Amazon Prime Day sale event was on (it's happening at a different time this week).

    Top 10:

The top-seller for the week was the new release Morbius. It easily outsold everything else this week, including the next new release, Ambulance in 4th place.

Father Stu, in 9th, was the next new release.

The 4K SteelBook release of Raiders of the Lost Ark was 15th. The other movies are coming in a strange staggered release pattern.

These new releases helped Blu-ray revenue rise by almost $3 million compared to the last week.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Both "Morbius" and "Ambulance" were made available on 4K. 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

On 4K, "Morbius" did quite well with a 4K UHD sales share of 26.19%. "Ambulance" didn't do too bad either with 21.54%.

The Northman was the top-seller for the week, that only included 3 other new releases, and two of them were 4K re-releases.

The Contractor was the other new release, coming in at 7th.

The 4K re-releases were Lawrence of Arabia and The Bridge on the River Kwai, in 8th and 15th respectively.

A very quiet week in terms of new releases almost saw Blu-ray revenue fall to record lows. As it is, the 4K release of The Untouchables: 35th Anniversary in 5th place was the highest-ranked new release.

The 4K release of For a Few Dollars More was 19th.

DVD sales decreased by $4.53m (down 22.9%), with unit sales down 30.4%.

This meant $8.10 million less in combined revenue for the week.

    Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue improved slightly compared to last week thanks to the release of Uncharted, which was easily the top-seller for the week.

Unexpected box office hit Dog was in third place, while The Cursed was in 10th.

The Jurassic universe movies were all released individually on 4K for the first time, and the very first movie, Jurassic Park go onto the top 20, in 16th place.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: "Uncharted" was the only one that came with a 4K edition (other than the 4K Jurassic Park). 6 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

The complete top 10 chart is below (new releases in bold, Blu-ray exclusives are denoted by *, UHD releases denoted by +):
    1. Uncharted+

"Uncharted" managed a BD sales share of 63.06%, the highest for this week's group of new releases. "The Cursed" managed 55.92%, while "Dog" just made the top 20 with 42.32%.

On 4K, "Uncharted" had a UHD sales share of 20.72%.

Roland Emmerich's Moonfall was the top-selling new release for the week, and the second most popular Blu-ray title overall. The Walmart exclusive Moonfall/Knowing was third.

    Top 10:

Weekly Blu-ray sales dropped by almost half compared to last week, but this was expected, as we've just entered the post-Easter sales lull.

The revenue drop happened despite there being a couple of new releases, including the top-selling of these new releases, Jackass Forever. It only sold enough copies to take third place on the Blu-ray sales chart.

The next new release was the Best Buy exclusive SteelBook 4K edition of The Cabin in the Woods.

In 6th place was the 4K SteelBook release of Heavy Metal/Heavy Metal 2000.

Rounding out the new releases in the top 10 was Cyrano in 9th.

Outside of the top 10, we have the SteelBook releases of The Tale of the Princess Kaguya and Only Yesterday in 17th and 19th respectively.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Other than the 4K exclusives, none of the other titles were made available on 4K. 7 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

    Top 10:

It's the pre-Easter sales bump again, where sales rise due to pre-Easter sales. And it also happens to be a week where a major A-list release was present, so double the bonus.

That A-list title was Spider-Man: No Way Home, outselling everything in its wake. In fact, the closest title that got to it was the newly released MCU Spider-Man 3-Movie Collection in second place. Still, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" sold 15 times more copies than the 3-movie collection.

The 4K re-release of RoboCop was the next new release, coming in at 6th. Then it was all the way down to 19th for the next new release, Chucky: Season One.

Easter 2021 happened a few weeks earlier, with Blu-ray recording $22.02 million in sales and DVD with $30.63 million. This meant that Blu-ray sales were up 19.8%, but DVD sales were down 25.6%. Total sales were up $3.5 million, which is encouraging given the recent string of losses. And for the first time in a while, Blu-ray sales were higher than DVD sales for the week.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: "Spider-Man: No Way Home" was available on 4K, but not the MCU 3-Movie pack. "Chucky: Season 1" was not available on 4K. 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

On 4K, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" had a 4K sales share of 30.72%.

Not a fair comparison, with a big release in the new "Spider-Man" film PLUS the pre-Easter sales bump up against, erm, "Willy's Wonderland".

Blu-ray revenue inched up again thanks to the release of Sing 2. It was so popular (or the rest of the titles were selling so little), that even the second most popular Blu-ray of the week was the Sing 2-Movie Pack. "The Matrix Resurrections" fell to a very distant third place.

Marry Me in 6th place was the next new release.

From the Warner archives comes The Wonderful World of the Brothers Grimm with its innovative "Smilebox" aspect ratio, and it was 15th. And finally in 20th, we have the Criterion Collection 4K and Blu-ray release of The Last Waltz.
