Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue improved slightly, only slightly, compared to last week's horrifying lows. Cocaine Bear was the top-selling new release and top-selling new title overall for the week, handily beating the number two title (and another new release), Magic Mike’s Last Dance.

The 4K release of Rebel Without a Cause was 5th, and outside of the top 20, Marlowe was 12th.

Another 4K release of a classic was in 19th, 12 Angry Men.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Neither "Cocaine Bear" nor "Magic Mike’s Last Dance" had 4K editions. 6 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

The BD sales share is the percentage of disc packages sold for that contained the titles's Blu-ray edition (including combos, and Ultra HD editions) for a particular title. So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

"Cocaine Bear" didn't do as well on Blu-ray as expected, with a BD sales share of only 42.89%. "Magic Mike's Last Dance" didn't do too much better, with 39.58%.

Both did better than "Marlowe" with its 27.12%.

None of the other releases had both a 4K and Blu-ray simultaneous release, so no 4K sales share to report.

DVD sales decreased by $5.60m (down 33.0%), with unit sales down 32.9%.

This meant $11.76 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue stayed steady (and still very poor) compared to the previous week, with only a smattering of smaller releases happening this week.

The best-selling new release, and best-seller overall, was Jesus Revolution, selling slightly more copies than Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen - Part One in second place.

The Best Buy exclusive 4K SteelBook release of The Man Who Fell to Earth was 6th, while Police Story III: Supercop was 7th.

Star Trek: Lower Decks - Season 3 was 8th.

Outside of the top 10, Triangle of Sadness was 15th, with His Dark Materials: The Complete Third Season in 18th.

Just having gone through the new releases, I can actually see we did have a good number of them - they just weren't big sellers.

"Star Trek: Lower Decks - Season 3" had the best BD sales share out of this week's new releases, with 71.17%.

"Triangle of Sadness" managed 66.57%, while "His Dark Materials: The Complete Third Season" got 58.08%.

"Jesus Revolution" had to settle for 36.28%.

On 4K, "Police Story III: Supercop" did the best with a 4K sales share of 73.10%. "Triangle of Sadness" got 43.49% and "Justice League x RWBY: Super Heroes & Huntsmen - Part One" got 19.67%.

It's getting harder and harder to explain the sea of red you see below. This time last year did have a "better" release in the form of "Moonfall", but a near 35% drop in Blu-ray revenue suggests it's more than just one title being the difference.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $3.95m (down 34.7%), with unit sales down 33.7%.

DVD sales decreased by $5.33m (down 32.3%), with unit sales down 32.4%.

This meant $9.28 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share decreased from 40.80% to 39.92%

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue stayed largely unchanged from previous weeks as 80 for Brady was the top-selling new release (and overall top seller) for the week.

The 4K re-release of Deep Impact was 6th, joined outside of the top 10 by the Best Buy exclusive Disney 100 4K SteelBook (phew, long title) releases of the original Star Wars trilogy, Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, and Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, in 11th, 12th and 13th respectively.

That was it for new releases though.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only "80 for Brady" wasn't a 4K exclusive release. Only 5 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue rose ever so slightly with 6 new releases in the top 20.

Yellowstone: Season 5, Part 1 was the most popular new release, and the week's overall top-seller. The juggernaut that is the Yellowstone televisual universe was evident here because the box set actually outsold the feature film Knock at the Cabin.

Superman 1978-1987 5-Film Collection on 4K was 6th, just ahead of the 2020 remake of Children of the Corn getting its Blu-ray release - it was 7th.

The Blu-ray version of All Quiet on the Western Front was released following the 4K version a few weeks ago, and it was 13th, and Unwelcome was 14th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Other than the Superman 4K boxset, the only new release with a 4K edition was "Knock at the Cabin". Only 4 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

"Knock at the Cabin" had the best BD sales share of this week's lot of new releases, with 54.57%. "Unwelcome" was next with 39.95%, followed by "Children of the Corn" with 31.07%.

"Yellowstone: Season 5, Part 1" had to settle for 19.73%, but given the show's demographic, this isn't too surprising.

On 4K, "Knock at the Cabin" managed a 4K sales share of 16.44%.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue continues its slow climb back above $10 million (there used to be a time when $50 million was the benchmark, as a Marvel movie barely made any dent in Blu-ray sales this week. Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania outsold everything else this week, including the second-placed Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre.

Max Fleischer's Superman was 5th, with the In the Line of Duty: I-IV box set in 7th.

The Italian Job gets a 4K release and is the last new release in the top 20.

Top 10:

Despite the release of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Blu-ray revenue only ticked up slightly.

Another big movie, Creed III, was also new, coming in third. The Best Buy exclusive 4K SteelBook release of Crank was 4th.

The 4K release of Brotherhood of the Wolf was 5th, with the 4K release of The Running Man was 11th.

A lot of WB releases were in the top 20, as it appears titles in the "Warner Bros. 100th Anniversary" box sets have been counted as separate releases.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: All of this week's new releases in the top 20 either had 4K editions or were 4K-only releases. Every titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions!

Top 10:

Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves was the week's top-seller, and it helped Blu-ray weekly revenue rise above $10 million.

It easily outsold the number two title, another new release, 65.

Looney Tunes Collector’s Choice Vol. 1 was 7th, with Violet Evergarden: The Movie in 9th.

The 4K re-release of The Last Starfighter was 10th.

Outside of the top 10, we have the Criterion release of Thelma & Louise in 12th, the SteelBook release of Maximum Overdrive was 13th, the 4K SteelBook release of Cliffhanger was 14th, and The People Under the Stairs was 15th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: Only "Looney Tunes Collector’s Choice Vol. 1" and "Maximum Overdrive" didn't have 4K editions. 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue did rise this week, but considering the A-list titles being released this week, it was still a bit disappointing. To be fair, both A-list titles were early releases, with their official release date being next week.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie was the clear top-seller for the week, with John Wick: Chapter 4 in a distant second-place. These two movies have a combined box office of around $USD 1.8 billion worldwide, so you'd think this would translate into a number week for Blu-ray.

When "John Wick: Chapter 3" was released, before the pandemic and the shift towards streaming, Blu-ray revenue for the week was nearly $40 million. There too was another "billion dollars" movie released on Blu-ray that week too, "Aladdin (2019)", so both weeks are comparable. We've gone from $40 million to just a bit over $12 million!

Renfield was the other new release in the top 10, coming in 4th.

The Best Buy exclusive 4K SteelBook version of Lord of War was 13th, and the only other new release in the top 20.

"John Wick: Chapter 4" beat everyone else to have the best BD sales share of this week's new releases, with 75.89%. This was ahead of "The Super Mario Bros. Movie", which did 68.48%. "Renfield" was further back at 57.67%.

On 4K, "John Wick: Chapter 4" was the winner too, beating "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" with a 4K sales share of 29.01% versus 18.97%.

A rare treat where Blu-ray revenue this week was actually up compared to the same week last year, when "The Northman" was the big headlining new release. That it took two movies with a combined global box office of nearly $1.8 billion to take down a movie that did less than $70 million worldwide, is interesting/depressing.

Blu-ray sales decreased by $1.06m (up 9.4%), with unit sales up 0.8%.

DVD sales decreased by $1.50m (down 9.7%), with unit sales down 18.7%.

This meant $0.44 million less in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share increased from 42.09% to 46.82%

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue lifted this week after the official release days for The Super Mario Bros. Movie and John Wick: Chapter 4 happened during the week (the two titles received early releases last week). These two titles helped Blu-ray revenue record the best results for 2023.

The Pope’s Exorcist was new to the week as well, coming in 4th.

Outside of the top 10, Sakra was 18th, while 35th anniversary edition of Rain Man was 19th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: "Rain Man" did have a 4K edition, but the other two did not. 8 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

It took two big releases to generate some positive growth for Blu-ray (and DVD) revenue. This time last year it was Morbin Time with the release of "Morbius" - it was no match for Mario and John Wick.

Blu-ray sales increased by $1.44m (up 10.2%), with unit sales down 1.6%.

DVD sales increased by $1.40m (up 8.4 %), with unit sales down 6.8%.

This meant $2.84 million more in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share increased from 45.89% to 46.30%

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue was up 6.8% compared to the same week last year off the backs of what will be one of the biggest releases of this year, Avatar: The Way of Water. Because "John Wick 4" held well, it was not too far behind in second place. The original Avatar was also made available on 4K, and it was 4th.

If 6.8% sounds okay, it's worth noting that back in 2010 when the original "Avatar" first debuted on Blu-ray, that week recorded a revenue figure of $66.57 million - and this was when Blu-ray was barely getting started as a format.

Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant was 5th, while it was all the way down to 13th for the next new release, Skinamarink.

The 4K restoration re-release of Ronin on 4K and Blu-ray was 14th.

The 4K release of The Firm, Vanilla Sky, and The Manchurian Candidate was 16th, 19th, and 20th.

This week's Ultra HD Blu-ray report: "Avatar: The Way of Water" did have a 4K edition, along with the aforementioned "Ronin" - "The Covenant" and "Skinamarink" did not. 7 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

A new "Avatar" release definitely means a 3D release, and "Avatar: The Way of Water" had a 3D sales share of 6.78%.

On 4K, "Avatar: The Way of Water" had the best 4K sales share as well out of the new releases, with 28.74%.

The new "Avatar" movie definitely did help Blu-ray record a better week than this time last year, when "The Bad Guys" was the biggest new release. Still, $13.75 million is not a great result in the context of the big release this week.

Blu-ray sales increased by $0.88m (up 6.8%), with unit sales down 2.0%.

DVD sales decreased by $0.69m (down 4.2 %), with unit sales down 14.2%.

This meant $0.19 million more in combined revenue for the week.

Blu-ray's market share increased from 43.87% to 46.56%

Top 10:

Evil Dead Rise was the best-selling new release for the week, but it only came in 4th place, as Blu-ray revenue dropped slightly compared to the previous weeks. The top 3 was still the same from last week, "Avatar 2", "John Wick 4", and "Super Mario

The 4K release of National Lampoon’s Vacation was 6th, and that was it for new releases in the top 10.

Outside of the top 10, the Shout Factory 4K releases of Creepshow was 11th, and the 30th Anniversary 4K edition of Jurassic Park was 16th.

Big George Foreman was 17th.

The 4K release of Mallrats and the 4K SteelBook release of Mission: Impossible was 19th and 20th respectively.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue stayed largely unchanged, with the past few weeks' big releases ("John Wick 4", "Super Mario Bros. Movie", and "Avatar: The Way of Water") still dominating the top 3. With the Fourth of July holiday happening in the week, it was quiet week in terms of new releases.

The 45th-anniversary edition of Jaws 2 on 4K was the highest-placed new release in 5th place.

The Truman Show also gets an anniversary 4K release (25th anniversary).

And that was it for new releases in the top 20. Told you it was quiet!

Sisu was 4th, and One Piece Film: Red was 6th.

The Criterion release of After Hours was 10th.

Outside of the top 10, Knights of the Zodiac was 11th and Book Club: The Next Chapter was 14th.

Lastly, Shin Ultraman was 17th Beau Is Afraid was 19th.

Top 10:

Blu-ray revenue continues to fall despite 7 new releases in the top 20. The fact that the straight-to-disc animated release Resident Evil: Death Island was the best-selling of the new releases (and the overall top-seller for the week) probably gives you an idea why Blu-ray revenue fell.

Another straight-to-disc animated release, Justice League: Warworld, was new to the top 10 in 4th.

And one more straight-to-disc animated release in the form of The Venture Bros. - Radiant Is the Blood of the Baboon Heart was new to the top 10, in 5th.

The Blu-ray release of My Best Friend Is a Vampire 11th, while another classic gets the Blu-ray treatment in 14th - One False Move.

More '90s classics in the form of Needful Things in 16th, and finally, World War Z gets a 4K release, and it finished 19th.
