For the week ending 28 September 2024, here are the stats:

Percentage of Units Sold:
UHD: 14.7%
Blu-ray: 26.5%

Top 20:

4K and Blu-ray weekly market share both grew thanks to the release of a couple of big movies and quite a few 4k only releases. Despicable Me 4 and Bad Boys: Ride or Die were the top 2 sellers on the combined Blu-ray and 4K sales chart, although on the 4K chart "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" was top and "Despicable Me 4" was third. Bad Boys 4-Movie Collection was 10th (not available on 4K).

Longlegs (4K trailer) was third (second on the 4K chart), and the 4K SteelBook release of Stardust was 5th (4th on the 4K chart).

The Arrow 4K limited edition release of 2009's Friday the 13th was 7th (5th on the 4K chart). Another 4K only release, the 40th anniversary SteelBook version of Body Double was 9th (6th on the 4K chart).

Continuing outside of the top 10, the 4K only release of the Mad Max 5-Movie Collection was 13th (7th on the 4K chart).

The Criterion release of Happiness was 14th (9th on the 4K chart), and finally in the combined top 20, the Blu-ray only release of Kite: Integral Version was 19th.

Continuing to new releases that only made the 4K only chart, the 4K release of Murder on the Orient Express was 10th.

Friends: The Complete Series is on 4K for the first time and was 15th, while the 4K release of Village of the Damned was 16th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: As mentioned earlier, only "Bad Boys 4-Movie Collection" wasn't made available on 4K. 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Blu-ray, Ultra HD Blu-ray Sales Share:

The BD sales share is the percentage of disc packages sold for that contained the titles's Blu-ray edition (including combos, and Ultra HD editions) for a particular title. So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

Of the new releases that had both a 4K/Blu-ray and standalone DVD edition, "Longlegs" had the best BD sales share, with 66.75%. "Bad Boys 4-Movie Collection" was the next best, with 52.57%, just ahead of "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" with 50.81%.

"Despicable Me 4" failed to get over 50%, with 48.89%.

For 4K, "Longlegs" had a 4K sales share of 29.57%, just ahead of "Bad Boys: Ride or Die" with 21.97%.

The week's top-seller "Despicable Me 4" got 9.39%.

Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K market share dropped back due to lack of new releases, both in terms of quality and quantity.

The top-ranked new release in the top 20 combined Blu-ray and 4K chart was actually the Blu-ray boxset release of The West Wing, in 13th place, and that was it for the combined chart.

On the 4K only chart, the 4K boxset Paramount Scares Vol. 2 was 6th, while the Amazon Exclusive 4K SteelBook version of Imaginary was 17th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: Of this week's three new releases, only "The West Wing" wasn't available on 4K. 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

The combined 4K UHD and Blu-ray market share decreased from 52.6% to 29.0%. The large discrepancy is due to the large number of 4K releases from the same week last year, which included "Prey", "Talk to Me", plus 4K exclusives like "The Mist", "Scream 3", "It Came From Outer Space", and "Evil Dead Rise".

Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K weekly market share surged thanks to a few releases, but more importantly, Amazon's second Prime sales day of the year. DVD market share dropped below 50% for the first time in quite a while.

For the new releases, the top-seller was A Quiet Place: Day One, topping both the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart as well as the 4K only chart. MaXXXine was second on the combined chart (3rd on the 4K chart - it wasn't available on DVD).

Arcane: League of Legends - Season One on Blu-ray and 4K was 4th (2nd on the 4K chart).

The 25th Anniversary 4K SteelBook edition of Sleepy Hollows was 10th (5th on the 4K chart).

And finally, Castlevania: Nocturne - Season One on Blu-ray was 18th (not available on 4K).

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: Only "Castlevania: Nocturne - Season One" wasn't available on 4K. Every single title out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions!

In terms of 4K sales share, "Arcane: League of Legends - Season One" had a 4K sales share of 69.17%, while "MaXXXine" got 40.92%. "A Quiet Place: Day One" got 26%.

Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K market share dropped back slightly, but still remained at a high level as the October Prime Day event winded down.

Several new 4K titles were still released during the week, the top-selling of which was the 4K and 4K SteelBook release of A Nightmare on Elm Street, which was second on the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart (first on the 4K chart).

The 4K SteelBook release of Thanksgiving was 8th (2nd on the 4K chart).

The 4K and 4K SteelBook release of The Ring was 9th (3rd on the 4K chart).

Continuing on, the 4K release of To Catch a Thief was 13th (6th on the 4K chart), while the 4K release of Cowboys & Aliens was 17th (9th on the 4K chart).

The Project A Collection didn't sell enough copies to make it into the combined top 20, but it was 18th on the 4K chart.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: Every previously listed new release had 4K editions. Every single title out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions!

Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K market share rose sharply thanks to two major releases, and a spate of 4K releases. Deadpool & Wolverine was the clear top-seller, no surprise for one of the biggest movies of 2024. Twisters (watch 4K trailer) didn't do too badly at the box office either, and it was the second most popular title for the week. The Twisters Double Feature on Blu-ray and DVD was also in the top 20, in 17th.

In a distant third place was the critically panned Borderlands (watch 4K trailer).

The 4K release of The Sixth Sense was 5th on the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart, and 4th on the 4K chart. Also from the same director, the 4K release of Signs was 6th (5th on the 4K chart).

Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Separation on Blu- ray only was next, in 12th place. Oddity was 13th (it wasn't made available on 4K).

We then continue with the 4K releases with Ghost in 15th (6th on the 4K chart), The Wolfman in 16th (8th on the 4K chart), and Death Becomes Her in 18th (9th on the 4K chart).

The Columbia Classics 4K Ultra HD Collection Vol. 5 4K box set was 19th (7th on the 4K chart), and finally In a Violent Nature was 20th (not available on 4K).

There were more new releases on the 4K only chart.

The Hitcher (on 4K and Blu-ray) was 10th, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari was 12th, Cheeky! was 15th, Hellraiser: Quartet of Torment (on 4K and Blu-ray) was 16th, and finally, the Criterion release of Gummo on 4K and Blu-ray was 17th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: The "Twisters Double Feature", "Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War - The Separation", "Oddity", and "In a Violent Nature" weren't available on 4K, everything else was. Every single title out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions!

"Deadpool & Wolverine" had a BD sales share of 75.03%, the best of this week's new releases. "In a Violent Nature" was next with 69.24%.

"Borderlands" got 64.13%, while the week's second top-seller "Twisters" got 55.86%. "Oddity" managed 50.17%. "Twisters Double Feature" managed 14%.

For 4K sales share, "Deadpool & Wolverine" was again the best, with 37.59%. It was followed by "Borderlands" with 29.31% and "Twisters" with 25.22%. The other releases with 4K sales share didn't make the top 20.

Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K market share dropped back down as the quality of new releases dropped too, although with Black Friday just around the corner, things might pick up soon. The 4K release of Trick ‘r Treat was the most popular new release in the combined Blu-ray and 4K top 20, coming in at 4th (it was also 4th on the 4K only chart).

Another 4K re-release (and most of the new releases this week are 4K re-releases), Zodiac, was next in 5th (3rd on the 4K chart). Addams Family Values in 7th (5th on the 4K chart), was the next 4K re-release.

The next 4K re-release was Drag Me to Hell, which was 14th (7th on the 4K chart). Yet another 4K re-release, for How the Grinch Stole Christmas, was 16th (8th on the 4K chart).

Breaking the trend, the Blu-ray boxset J-Horror Rising was 19th. Another Blu-ray boxset, The Classic Ghosts was in 20th place.

There was one more new release on the 4K only top 20 chart. The 4K re-release of Shocker was 13th.

Top 20:

Blu-ray and 4K market share remained steady as a dozen new releases littered the top 20, although none were what you would consider A-list releases.

The top-selling new release was 2024's The Crow, even though it was only 3rd on the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart (second on the 4K chart, it wasn't available on DVD).

Trap was 4th (10th on the 4K chart), while the hugely controversial It Ends With Us was 5th (it wasn't available on 4K).

The 4:30 Movie was 6th (5th on the 4K chart thanks to the Amazon exclusive 4K edition - no DVD edition made available).

The 4K anniversary edition of White Christmas was 8th (4th on the 4K chart). The Amazon 4K SteelBook exclusive of John Wick was 10th (6th on the 4K chart).

Another 4K edition, We Were Soldiers, was 11th (7th on the 4K chart). Yet another 4K edition, this time the limited edition SteelBook of Escape From New York, was 13th (9th on the 4K chart).

Taking a break from 4K releases, I Love Lucy: The Complete Series on Blu-ray was 14th. "It Ends with Us" managed 34%.

Back to 4K, the limited edition 4K SteelBook of Krampus was 18th (12th on the 4K chart). The 1954 version of Godzilla also comes to Criterion 4K and it was 19th (11th on the 4K chart).

We're finished with the combined top 20, but there was one more new release in the 4K only top 20. The 4K edition of Rules of Engagement was 16th.

Top 20:

The 4K SteelBook release of Gladiator was the best-selling new release for the week, even though it only ranked 3rd on the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart - it was second on the 4K chart.

The Criterion 4K release of Seven Samurai was 5th, 3rd on the 4K chart.

Star Trek: Prodigy - Season 2 on Blu-ray (and DVD) was 8th - no 4K edition.

The Amazon exclusive 4K SteelBook of Planes, Trains and Automobiles was 14th (7th on the 4K chart).

Afro Samurai: The Complete Series + Movie was released on a SteelBook Blu-ray edition, and it was 15th. And finally, the 1932 version of Scarface got a Criterion treatment on 4K and Blu-ray, and it was 19th (11th on the 4K chart).

There were more new releases on the 4K only chart.

The 4K limited edition release of Elvira: Mistress of the Dark was 9th. The 4K release of Born on the Fourth of July was 12th. The 4K release of The Sugarland Express was 13th. And finally, the 4K limited edition release of The Invasion was 16th.

So a BD sales share of 60% indicates that 60% of disc packages sold for this particular film contained the Blu-ray edition for this film, and so anything over 50% means that the Blu-ray version of the film was more popular than the DVD version.

Since only "Star Trek: Prodigy - Season 2" had a DVD edition, it was the only new release with a BD sales share - a high 83.75%.

Only "Scarface" had both a 4K and Blu-ray edition, and so it's the only one with a 4K sales share - but it didn't rank in the top 20 4K sales share chart.

Top 20:

It's a week full of new releases. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice was this week's top-seller, selling just ahead of the quite excellent Godzilla Minus One. Their positions were reversed on the 4K only chart, with the Godzilla movie on top instead.

The 40th anniversary 4K and 4K SteelBook release of The Terminator was 4th (3rd on the 4K chart).

House of the Dragon: The Complete Second Season was 5th (also 5th on the 4K chart), while the Blu-ray only release of Reagan was 6th.

In 8th place was the Wal-Mart exclusive SteelBook 4K edition of Oppenheimer.

The 4K release of Blazing Saddles was 10th (8th on the 4K chart), just ahead of the 4K release of North by Northwest in 11th (7th on the 4K chart).

The Killer’s Game was 13th (20th on the 4K chart), just ahead of Speak No Evil in 13th (it wasn't available on 4K).

And finally, the 4K release of Labyrinth was 18th (10th on the 4K chart).

We're not done yet, bear with me, there were still a couple more releases on the 4K only chart.

The 4K Wal-Mart exclusive SteelBook edition of The Dark Crystal was 13th.

The Arrow release of A Simple Plan in 4K and Blu-ray editions was 15th.

Looking at the new releases that had DVD editions, "Godzilla Minus One" had the best BD sales share, with a BD sales share of 79.16%. "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" had 61.75%, with "The Killer’s Game" getting 58.95%, just a whisker above "House of the Dragon: The Complete Second Season" with 58.94%.

"Speak No Evil" got 49%.

For the new releases with separate 4K and Blu-ray editions, "Godzilla Minus One" got a 4K sales share of 49.82%. "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" got a 4K sales share of 29.97%. "House of the Dragon: The Complete Second Season" got 26.59%. The other new releases that quality for a 4K sales share did not get into the top 20.

Top 20:

It's Black Friday week, so not a lot of new releases, but some of this year's favourites are getting back to near the top of the list as discounting happens. Titles like Dune: Part Two, Despicable Me 4, The Lord of the Rings: The Motion Picture Trilogy, The Batman, and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire are all back in the top 10, and more are back in the top 20, like "Top Gun: Maverick" and "Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire".

We did have a couple of new releases, though. The Criterion editions of Paper Moon on 4K and Blu-ray was the highest ranked of them, at 17th (12th on the 4K chart). The 4K Criterion edition of The Shape of Water was 20th (7th on the 4K chart).

The 4K edition of Hush was also in the 4K only top 20, in 18th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: All the new releases had 4K editions or were 4K only releases. 9 titles out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions.

Top 20:

4K sales share jumped thanks to one big sci-fi release, and several 4K exclusive releases from Disney.

Alien: Romulus was the top-selling new release on both the combined Blu-ray and 4K chart, and the 4K only chart.

The Wild Robot was in second place (4th on the 4K chart).

Disney has released several 4K SteelBook releases for their popular Disney+ series, including Star Wars: Ahsoka - The Complete First Season in 5th (2nd on the 4K chart), Star Wars: The Mandalorian - The Complete Third Season in 6th (3rd on the 4K chart), Loki: The Complete Second Season in 8th (5th on the 4K chart), and Hawkeye: The Complete First Season in 10th (7th on the 4K chart).

In between all of those 4K SteelBook releases was the 4K and 4K SteelBook re-release of Galaxy Quest in 9th (6th on the 4K chart).

The Forge was 17th (no 4K edition).

That was it for the combined top 20, but there were a couple of more releases on the 4K only top 20.

The Walmart exclusive 4K SteelBook release of 300 was 13th on the 4K chart, joined by the Amazon exclusive 4K release of Pulp Fiction in 14th.

This week's 4K Ultra HD report: Only "The Forge" didn't have a 4K edition. Every single title out of this week's top 10 had UHD editions!

"Alien: Romulus" had the best BD sales share out of the week's non-format exclusive new releases, and it had a BD sales share of 72.48%. "The Wild Robot" managed 56.98%.

"The Forge" only managed 19%.

For 4K sales share, "Alien: Romulus" was again on top, with a massive 44.65%. From this, we can deduce that 44.65% of copies of the movie sold were the 4K edition, 27.83% purchased the Blu-ray edition, and 27.52% bought the DVD edition.

For "The Wild Robot", it had a 4K sales share of 21.07% (with 35.91% of sales for the Blu-ray edition, and 43.02% for the DVD edition).

Top 20:

4K sales share dropped as new releases also dropped for the week. The best-selling new release was the 4K release of Interstellar, which was 4th on the combined 4K and Blu-ray chart (second on the 4K chart).

The Criterion edition of No Country for Old Men on 4K and Blu-ray was also released, and it was 7th (4th on the 4K chart).

Doctor Who: 60th Anniversary Specials was 15th - it wasn't made available on 4K.

And finally, the 4K SteelBook release of Willow was 17th (10th on the 4K chart).

There was one more new release in the 4K only top 20 - the 4K edition of Riddick was 14th.

So a pretty quiet week.

Top 20:

4K sales share rose off the backs of several new releases, although none that you would consider an A-list release.

The top-selling new release was also the week's overall top seller, Terrifier 3 - it was second on the 4K only chart. Closely behind was Transformers One, which was the actual top-seller on the 4K chart. Interestingly, "Transformers One" skipped having a separate Blu-ray release, with only the 4K and DVD editions available (although the 4K edition does include the Blu-ray version).

The box office bomb Joker: Folie à Deux was 4th on both charts - not really redeeming itself on home release either.

Digimon: Digital Monsters - The Movies 1-3 was 9th - it wasn't made available on 4K.

Demolition Man arrives as an Arrow limited edition release on 4K and Blu-ray, and it was 12th (5th on the 4K chart).

Seinfeld: The Complete Series on 4K and Blu-ray was 18th (12th on the 4K chart).

The first of two Amazon exclusive 4K SteelBook releases was 19th, Kickboxer (10th on the 4K chart). We'll get to the other release shortly.

Rounding off the top 20 was The Mean One on Blu-ray SteelBook was 20th.

Two more new releases on the 4K only chart.

The other Amazon exclusive 4K SteelBook was Stir of Echoes was 16th, while the 4K release of The Holdovers was 19th.

Of the new releases with separate DVD editions, "Terrifier 3" had the best BD sales share, 73.34%. "Transformers One" was the next best, with 68.63%, just ahead of "Joker: Folie à Deux" with 63.20%.

For 4K sales share for titles with both a separate 4K and Blu-ray or DVD editions, "Demolition Man" had the best result, with 96.98% - they probably shouldn't have bothered with the Blu-ray edition.

"Seinfeld: The Complete Series" had a 4K sales share of 79.58%, while "Transformers One" was the next best at 68.63%. "Terrifier 3" got 48.35%.

"Joker: Folie à Deux" at least did well relatively on 4K, with 34.24%.
