The hardware issue (RRoD) has improved a lot with the new models, to the point where I think it isn't a major problem anymore. The noise issue, on the other hand, makes it not such a great choice for home theatre usage.
Yes, the Arcade does not have a hard-drive (only a 256 MB memory card for storing save games). You have to buy the Microsoft hard-drive add-on, as unlike the PS3, you cannot change the drive yourself.
Which is the best one to get, then? Assuming I'd want it to play original Xbox games... is there any other options? I assume they all use HDMI and stuff?
The new 60 GB model is the one to get, unless you don't need the hard-drive, then the Arcade model is the cheapest. I think you need the hard-drive to play Xbox games though (certainly the downloadable types). They all have HDMI now.
Yeah, I know you need the hard drive. My friend made the mistake of buying one without a hard drive, and he had to return it and get one with the hard drive.
Is the new 60GB model what's called "Xbox 360" for $299? Or is that a more basic one?
