MPAA Already Lobbying Obama

The Motion Picture Association of America has wasted no time when it comes to cozying up with Sen. Barack Obama.

Hours after Obama became the 44th president-elect, MPAA Chairman Dan Glickman applauded the Illinois senator's victory. In a statement, Glickman said Hollywood "stands ready to work constructively with the Obama administration and the new Congress to revitalize our economy and American's place in the world."

When you look at who voted for Obama and elected him, I would say the MPAA is up a creek in desperate need of a paddle.

Obama claims his organization DOES NOT take money from lobbyist, so if that is true, they don't feal obligated to do what the MPAA wants them to do.

But, if they like what the MPAA has to say, money or no money, then they are most likely to do what the MPAA wants them to do.

Either way, the DVD fan is mostly likely to be screwed over again by the MPAA.


But, I still believe you have to be MORE CONCERNED about the oil lobby people, they have even more clout then the MPAA. And they carry a MUCH BIGGER walking tall stick.

Well, you know, the MPAA is exactly the type of people I think Obama is trying to fight. They intentionally rip off American customers by charging high prices for DVDs and make huge profits from them... and as if that wasn't enough, they're running this whole anti-piracy crap as well.

I hope Obama's organization is smart and ignores them.

I'm a huge Obama supporter, but I suspect it will be "as they are" when it comes to the relationship between MPAA and the US government. The thing is, even if Obama turn away the MPAA, there are plenty of Congressmen and Senators that will willingly take their cash and I doubt Obama will use his veto powers to intervene on something which, compared to other things that need to be vetoed, is quite trivial.

There will certainly be less momentum for the "kill fair use" lobbying movement which has received a lot of proactive help and support from the current administration.

the younger, lower income, and non anglo saxon were almost all behind Obama's victory

the traditional power elite could not dupe them into voting for a more conservative candidate when unemployment is so high and the stock market had crashed so bad after
massive home loan defaults

I agree about the Senate but feel the new house of representatives will be a lot more favorable to "fair use"

The MPAA has a "long row to hoe"

The real changes will only happen if someone like Obama stays in the office long enough to replace the aging Republican Supreme Court that Reagan and Bush Family appointed.
