if only they put a HQV chip in any of their blu-ray player!
so far i have only found a HQV in the samsung bd2500 when talking about decent price range and not spending a fortune.
for some time i was looking at the 300 model from LG because in a similar price range the samsung (vd1500) did not provide divx capability - this however seem to have changed now with a fw update!
i have tested a samsung bd 1500 these days and was suprised to find this little chap playing avi files and +rw and +r which according to a sticker ONTOP of the very same player it could not play!
for a player in this price range i found the samsung 1500 the best value for money so far but unlike its bigger brother it is missing the HQV chip and i'm not going to buy a blu-ray player without it.
does anyone know alternatives to the samsung bd 2500 WITH HQV???

I think there's an Denon coming out with the even more advanced form of HQV, but you might have to mortgage your house to pay for it.
Toshiba and Samsung are the only two other companies real keen on using the HQV chipset, and one of them is still smarting from the HD DVD loss to even consider making Blu-ray players.
Overall, the average DVD upscaling quality of Blu-ray players are quite poor, don't know if that's intentional or not. If you have the space, it may be best to just buy a dedicated upscaling DVD player, say an Oppo DV-983H, which will beat pretty much everything out there (even though it doesn't use the HQV chipset).Comment
