Fox Studios is lobbying the US government to copy the French and introduce a three-strikes anti-piracy system. Fox believes that cutting off the Internet connection of people suspected of pirating films will help the industry battle online piracy.
Under the system, ISPs would effectively become copyright cops and will then pass on the cost of the anti-piracy operation unto the consumer, costing the studios nothing with everything to gain.
This comes after Hollywood reported record profits even during the economic downturn and last year's writers strike.
