The big names of the Web, Facebook, Google, Yahoo and eBay, have all come out to question the proposed Digital Britain copyright laws. They are concerned about Clause 17, which gives the Secretary of State the power to radically alter copyright law at will without having to go through the usual process.
The web giants fear this could add uncertainty as businesses will always be in fear of changes being made by the government. They also warned this could "increase monitoring of user data even where no illegal practice has taken place" and could "discourage innovation".
The government dismissed these concerns calling Clause 17 necessary to "keep pace with technology".
I for one trust Facebook, Google, Yahoo and eBay more than the UK government when it comes to keeping pace with technology.
