UK Anti-Piracy Mailing Campaign Catches Innoncents. Again.

UK law firm ACS:Law recently sent out letters to those it says were pirating materials online, and asking for payment to make the matter go away. Many of those targeted were alleged to have downloaded pirated pornography.

UK's Which? magazine has been contacted by at least 150 people claiming that they were innocent, including one 78 year old being accused of downloading porn. This isn't the first time Which? magazine has received complaints from such mailings.

ACS:Law preys on the fact that many of the those accused of downloading pirated porn will be too embarrassed to proceed with the matter to court. Those that do want to proceed are sometimes ignored by ACS:Law as the cost of going to court may be higher than the profit that can be gained from such actions.

ACS:Law is currently under investigation by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

I wish they would send me a letter, although I never downloaded a flic period. I would happily show up w/my collection. I guarantee they will not ever send me another notice and think about this stunt before doing it again.

Several members of the UK House of Lords have called ACS:Law's mailing campaign as a "scam", and accused them of "harassment, bullying and intrusion" and perpetrating “legal blackmail”. Here's a video of one of the Lords speaking:

That's good. Once the Bigger Boys get involved things start happening. This whole anti-piracy witch hunt will be put to a hault sooner or later.
