Molly Wood over at CNET has written a nice article that calls for action right now, or we'll face a "dystopian" future where government and police do the bidding of corporations.
In relation to the MPAA and RIAA's outrageous demands, some of their plans posted here, the article looks at the history of anti-piracy measures and sees a disturbing trends towards a frightening future.
But all is not lost yet. The public has the same right as the MPAA and RIAA to submit their proposals and objections to things like custom officials searching your laptop and MP3 player for pirated content at airports and border crossings, to home spyware tools that delete files these corporations deem "unsuitable" and many many others scary proposals.
The copyright holders, the corporations, now basically want government, and all its resources, including the military and police, to guarantee their profits and vanquish anyone that dare oppose them. This may sound like the plot of a sci-fi movie, but unfortunately it isn't that far away from reality of the current situation, certainly not far away enough.
Read the article for yourself and decide whether now is the time to take action or not:
