Hitachi has unveiled a Blu-ray + SSD hybrid drive. The drive designed for notebooks and other portable devices contains both a Blu-ray reader/DVD writer, and also 32GB or 64GB SSD storage capacity.
The SSD storage can be used to install system files for fast access, or can be used partly or fully as a cache for the notebook's larger traditional HDDs. By combining the Blu-ray drive and the SSD drive, this allows notebook manufacturers to conserve space while still offering the latest storage technologies.
