The indie developers of the super popular Super Meat Boy game has scorned the suggestion that they're worried about their game being pirated. "Our game was hugely pirated – we don’t f**king care," Team Meat's Edmund McMillen told the DarkZero podcast.
The game is widely available to download, illegally, on the usual torrent sites, and appears to have been downloaded thousands of times.
And the developers couldn't care less.
"If there are let’s say 200,000 copies of SMB that are getting passed around for free, that’s 200,000 people who are playing the game. If they like this game there’s a really high probabability of their friends coming around and seeing it or them posting about it on their blogs," added McMillen.
And it seems they're right. Super Meat Boy has already sold 600,000 copies on Xbox Live Arcade and on PCs via Steam, as of April 2011. So it seems not caring about piracy seems to be a strategy that, at the very least, doesn't hurt.
