Rumors are pointing to Sony announcing their own version of used game DRM, despite competitor Microsoft's DRM related launch fiasco.
Speaking on the "Bonus Round" podcast, host Geoff Keighley cited sources close to the PS4 development that Sony have their own plans to limit the use of second hand games. Keighley says on the podcast: "Sony I think is, you know, being seen as this sort of white knight so far and is not going to restrict used games. Based on some of the things I’m hearing, I don’t think that’s entirely true."
Sony said in February, shortly after the launch of the PS4, that the new console would not blocked used games. Back then, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida was less forthright when it came to allowing gamers to resell used games.
But following Microsoft's Xbox One PR disaster, there's also a suggestion that Sony will take the reaction to heart, despite it being fairly late in the process for major changes to the console's licensing scheme. Posting on the NeoGAF forums, user "famousmortimer", previously reliable for Sony related leaks says that Sony will at the very least modify their message based on the backlash. "Sony also is in a tactically advantageous position right now where they aren't talking about it and they won't talk about it until they have to. And this is only amplified by the fact that they go second at E3," posted famousmortimer.
E3 2013 will take place at the Los Angeles Convention Center from June 11-13.
