    Since we're on the topic of 'ol gates...i did write a thesis on his ass...and heres the story...

    He left college to work in this little computer shop, learning how to program and build computers.

    Then with some buddies from school, he started a little company, which eventually turned out to be MicroSoft.

    Thats a long story short.

      May as well enter 'The American President' as a bad film, even though it was this year, since thats the way the thread has gone.

        but what does bill know about supply side economics..probably not much, so he wouldn't know how to run a country. running a monopoly and a country are totally different.

          he doesnt really run the company anyway - he hires people to do that. You dont need to be smart - all he has is his technical idea of WIMP and the windows system. thats it. An invention! What has he got apart from that (and his multi billions ). He doesnt desgin any of the new software programs for microsoft, probably didnt design any of them really. He was smart to have the invention, all he is now is a face for microsoft.

            He didn't design any of the old stuff, either. Bought MS-DOS from a developer from Olympia, Wn. He just marketed it ( and screwed IBM when he designed all their OS2 stuff...and then came out with his MS-DOS 3.1 series which was better and far cheaper.)

                No argument. The money's in the BS. It's why I left the CPA firm to become a headhunter.

                    He sure did...although it wasnt called "ms-dos" back then (ms for microsoft) Oh, and he basically improved it.

                    He just marketed it ( and screwed IBM when he designed all their OS2 stuff...and then came out with his MS-DOS 3.1 series which was better and far cheaper.)
                    That was the main point behind his success, making an environment everyone could afford to buy, remember, he never wanted open-source stuff for people to modify...

                        hey, that's the proof that all I've said to explain Solaris was a great film was exactly what made it a flop in theatre. I love what (american) ppl hate - hans zimmer, if you read me, do an other job.

                          @BoF:

                          @Solaris : solaris is interesting and worth seeing, no matter what any1 says...

                          @rsquirell: right, i've confused nixon with hoover.

                          @politix: in a word, americans always had and will hgave for some time i think the most f****d up political figures around, for all the other countries to watch and enjoy, and in many cases, sadly, follow.

                            Europeans always follow the Americans (because you want our money...it's why English has become the language of business.) In the 80's you had Maggie Thatcher and Capitolists (to follow Reagan)...in the 90's you elected Communists and Socialists to follow Clinton. Don't you think it's about time to start electing Capitalists again?

                                Bobby Seale (Black Panther leader) fled to Castro's Cuba to escape murder charges. After two years he returned and surrendered to authorities preferring American jail over communism. Arnold came here for much the same reason...life is just better under capitalist freedom no matter what your position.
