    Videotron (CABLE)
    No
    F*ucking 15gb download/5gb upload caps
    4mbit down/256kbit up
No, they just charge my ass like crazy (8$/xtra gb)
    YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS! ^#$%*&^(&)%%$#$^%...
Not much, all together less than 1 24-hour period.
    May-be
If they can live with caps, sure, because of the speed.

Re: Do you like your Internet Service Provider?

      1- Telus
      2- No
      3- Cap 5GB/5GB
      4- 1500/512Kb
5- Not me yet. They monitor everyone's Speed, Pull 10 abusers out of the hat of all thier violators and send hate mail to them. People who receive 3 hate mails get suspended for a month. Fourth Hate mail in 365 days and they get Expelled for good. Lots of subscribers, chances of that happening to me are slim to none. Unlike Cable subscribers who's automation sends EVERY VIOLATOR warning letters or charges to your bill for exceeding them.

6- No. Everyone should be able to up/download at least 20 GB if not more. High speed internet means you can exceed your monthly cap in Hours. How does that make sense?

7- between 1 to 3 months a year in connection trouble and network incompatibilities/DNS issues and E-mail server troubles.

8- Definately not. They would rather blame a problem on you then admit they have incompetent staff, obsolete equipment or retarded policies (Two months later they publicly post a problem with thier server which you have been whining about for the last 60 days). Problems majically dissapear when you are calling customer service, yet they say that they didn't do anything (After a bunch of humms and ahh's). It takes them 15 to 90 days to get you hooked up as thier departments don't communicate properly with each other, where thier Techy's are too lazy to take any effort assessing connection issues directly with the customer. Also thier disclaimer can change at any time without your expressed permission. Ever read your licence agreements?

9- Yes, as the other ones charge more money and have a slower unacceptable uplink. Your connection is always as fast as your slowest link. Who cares is you have 100 Megabit, I can only send at 28.8K. Kinda makes online gaming a hassle when everyone the same package as you do. Max recieve and send = 28.8K
And no- if all the guy wanted was a reliable connection to the network and was only gonna do web browsing and E-mail, Shaw or videotron would be just fine.

My ISP is still having troubles providing me trouble free internet. Seems I am not the only one either.

I recently talked to a few people over DC++ who have thier own internet problems, but thier ISP problems are related to Caps, hate mail and charges for exceeding caps.

I hear that one of the most stupid carriers being Optimum Online.
a Guy received a letter which I re-worded. I am sure most of you don't have the time to read big posts, but here it was:
          ---------------------------------------------------------------------------

          You may be.

If you use one of these peer-to-peer file services without disabling the file sharing option, the whole Internet can have access to files on your hard drive. It can also lead to network problems that may result in your upstream speed being temporarily reduced to control the abuse.

          Don't let that happen.

See http://security.uchicago.edu/peer-to...ileshare.shtml for easy-to-follow instructions for disabling file sharing for the peer-to-peer programs you're running. That way, you can continue to enjoy the Internet services you like. But you'll keep the network clear for other users. And you'll stay clear of the restriction against running servers found in the Optimum Online Residential Terms of Service.

For further protection against unwanted intrusions into your computer, we recommend all Internet users maintain firewall and antivirus software. See http://www1.my-etrust.com/cvision/ for a special offer just for Optimum Online subscribers.

So please, be online. But be protected.

Important Security Update for Windows XP Users

Please note that a recently discovered flaw in the Windows XP operating system provides the potential for computer attackers to create music files that can gain control of listeners' computers. For more information and to download Microsoft's latest update to fix this issue, please click here for the Microsoft Web site.

they are going to search through their connections for people with servers. in the optimum online contract it says you cannot make a server. so anyone with an ftp, kazaa, or any other program that has an upstream could have their service shut down at any time.
          ---------------------------------------------------------------------
The original post should actually be geared to say this:
          Important Notice: Potential Security Breach

          Dear Optimum Online Subscriber:

We have been monitoring your internet activity and found that you may be running a server from you computer and not even know it.
If you use any of the peer-to-peer file services listed below without disabling the file sharing option, the entire Internet can access the files on your hard drive. In addition, use of these services can lead to network problems that may result in your upstream speed being temporarily reduced to control this abuse of service. We do realize that if you don't run a server, you will never use your upstream, so we decided to limit your uplink to 1/10th the speed of your downlink. And no, your fastest speed is not always as fast as your slowest connection, despite what others tell you.
Aimster, KaZaA, DC++, BEARSHARE, Blah Blah Blah..(ALMOST EVERYTHING EXCEPT INTERNET EXPLORER)
Don't compromise your privacy or the performance of your high-speed connection. If you don't use the internet as much, we won't invade your privacy and monitor your internet connection. We feel that any other software which encourages data transfers may result in higher internet costs, which may be passed onto you. If we need to stay competitive with other internet companies, we may actually need to hire qualified network adminitrators and customer support staff, force you to agree to more legal disclaimers or face refusing service to you for using the internet too much. We encourage people to use the high speed internet at a fast pace, so you don't have to use the internet as much. You and other subscribers can then continue to enjoy Internet services at peak performance speeds whenever you wish to check for your e-mail or look at a Cyber sex weblink with millions of pop-up's. And you'll steer clear of violating the restriction against having to use the internet without restrictions outlined in our limited "Unlimited" internet. (see Optimum Offline Residential Terms of Service: htsk://ww2.optonline.net/toss-me-a-bone.)

For further protection and optimum performance, we also recommend all Internet users maintain firewall and antivirus software. We say this so you get the false impression that your computing needs are in our best interest.

We want you to stay online and stay protected while enjoying the best performance (Even though you aren't allowed to utilize it) of Optimum Online high-speed Internet access.

Thank you for being a valued Optimum Offline customer.

          Sincerely,
          Big Brother

          --------------------------------------

Be Glad that most of you don't have these problems with your ISP.

You guys ISP Sucks with a capital S U C K S. I suppose mine has rules also, but I haven't a clue what they are and don't care. I hear from them twice a month. When the bill arrives in the mail and a e-mail begging me to vist their web site and make it my home page. If they make me unhappy; they are fired and I go with the next guy. They all charge about the same $40-50 dollars a month. This is for cable or dsl. Don't like dial up. Since I installed this 4 years ago they have changed owners 3 times. The last month I lost My conection twice for about 5 minutes and 20 minutes. I don't know if there is a cap. If so, I haven't hit it and my wife thinks I'm trying to download the entire internet. Maybe I am. Other people I talk to locally complain about their service, but I don't seem to have any problems. They are presently owned by Comcast. They have owned the service for about 3 months. I have 2 other choices if the Pi@# me off.
