5 songs is too limiting, how about 5 albums (cd's whatever) you'd want if you were stranded on an island for years. In other words stuff that wouldn't make you go crazy if it was all you could listen too for years on end. (even at that it would be hard to pick just 5 )
1-Dr. Dre - Forgot About Dre
2-Tupac Shakur - Hit 'Em Up
3-Dr. Dre - Ain't Nuthin But A 'G' Thang
4-Michael Jackson - Smooth Criminal
5-U2 - One
6-Eminem - If I Get Locked Up Tonight
7-Tupac Shakur - 'Runnin
8-U2 - Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
9-U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday
10-Michael Jackson - Billie Jean
Not much variety, i know

i don't have 10 favorite ( yes there always has to someone difficult). but i like a variety of stuff.
1. HUGE fan of johnny cash
2. 80's music--most of the greatest hits you can think of
3. classic rock--to many songs to list
4. golden oldies of the 50's, 60's
5. classical
stuff i deteste are "rap" or "hip hop" or modern country especially.

though my top10 is mostly rap, i have to agree with you partially, as i don't like 99% of anything rap/hip-hop/r&b/whatever made in the past 6 years or so.
this is partly because i've noticed that the music industry (or should i say music video industry) is fast becoming a sublet of the sex industry, and soon we won't be able to tell the two apart. people no longer need a good voice to be successful in music, just attractive and willing to strip in front of the camera...
that's one of the reasons why most of what i listen to is old (early to mid- 90's ), even though i'm young
that's right, there is so much non-talent out there and people cater to it. look at britney spears, aguilerra. if they looked like janet reno they would be nothing today.
