I had to google MI5 as I didn't know what show you meant. It is known as Spooks in the UK (person working in intelliegence in either MI5 or MI6).

    @dazuk1972

I use Amazon.co.uk for DVD Rentals. They do boxsets and costs £9.99 to rent out 6 DVD's per month (up to 3 at the same time).

I like watching Coronation Street, Are You Being Served, any Benny Hill show, and the TWO Ronnies are my favourate Brit shows!

But I have 57 channels and nothing is on (to quote "The Boss" (Bruce Springsteen))! TV quality sucks as the commercials and censorship is awful.

Last Saturday night, my boys (3&2) and I watched "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" on ABC. There was at least 10 minutes cut from the film!! I have the DVD and found this very frustrating.

One of my favourate movies is the "Shawshank Redemption". TBS (from Atlanta) censors the original so badly that part of the story line is lost!!

CBC Canada (TV&radio) here is subsidized by the taxpayers. Generally VERY lousy programming and production as they know where the next dollar is coming from. I wish they did not get the subsidization as then they would have to compete in the real world. (And then get better!)

But in some communities, this is all that is provided free to air. The rest is dish or cables which cost $$$s.

I wish I could say to hell with the cable bill but they provide my internet connection at $40.00 a month. I buy a package to keep the wife happy!(?).

So my cable bill is $100.00 per month!

      God, I hate monopolies!

I have Directv, pay $120 p/mo with about 250 channels (30 movie channels) and there is never anything on.

We have TiVo, and so we record NCIS and the Unit. This way we can fast forward through the commercials. I love Monk, so I just buy the season when it comes out and I can watch it on my PC. I'll plug in a show for the kids and then I can watch an episode in peace

I wish there was a mute button for human beings because some stupid pratt walks in the local supermarket sometimes doing the one-man act thinking he has all the fans. The only fans he has is himself and his electric fan to chill out. He never buys anything, he just talks too loud so people can hear each other talk and so people can't hear the supermarket radio. He acts cocky calling all the men "mate" saying "Hello, mate. What have you been doing, mate?" He calls all the women "sweetheart" and "darling" and kisses them on the way out while being the biggest pratt on earth. He talks a load of boring rubbish. He's one of those people that thinks he's funny and well-liked and all he does is, he annoys everybody. I can't understand why no women slapped him for kissing them. I need a mute button so that I can't hear him. As I said, he never buys anything, he only performs his one-man act.

I go through moments when I watch more TV series' on DVD than films. I recently bought the series Hammer House Of Mystery And Suspence. I've been after that series for so many years. It was made by the same people that made the series Hammer House Of Horror.

In another thread, I mentioned about a Philips DVD recorder that I bought and sent back because of the recording and editing methods being awkward to the full. I forgot to mention something there and I'll mention it now. Another stupid thing about that Philips DVD recorder was, when I wanted to edit the commercials out of a recording, it didn't edit them out properly. The DVD recorder had a function where you can set a position before and after the commercials so that the laser jumps right through the commercials so that they don't appear on the screen. What is stupid is when a certain disc is played on another DVD machine the commercials appear on the screen because they all don't have that edit jump feature as in a commercial jump feature. Also, the commercials waste a lot of disk space on a disk. About 25% of the disc would have commercials on it and that wasted disk space can be used for a half-hour episode of something. Philips say they are the best at designing machines. I wouldn't even trust them to design a salad sandwich.

@ dazuk1972 - I tend to stick with sony products. I have never had a problem with their products.

As to TV - I renege on my complaints about commercials. I just spent an entire Sunday laughing at the ads during the football games! The Mac man and the PC man were the best!

I have a Sony DVD recorder now. I got rid of the Philips one months ago and ordered the Sony one as a replacement. I don't know if you read what else I mentioned about that Philips DVD recorder in another thread? I can't remember where it is in the forum so I can't post the link encase you missed it. It's about the middleman all over the place when recording to a non-stop-recording buffer before copying to the hard drive and before copying to DVD. My Sony DVD recorder has a hard drive and I can record to the hard drive as easy as recording straight to a DVD disc or as easy as we record to a VHS cassette. The picture quality with LP is just as clear as SP. I have another DVD recorder but but that one was made by Sharp. That one doesn't have a hard drive but when I recorded to a DVD disc using LP the picture quality was like watching a VHS recording. Just as well Sony's LP is as good as SP.

I have two PVR's with hard disks. Anything I might want to watch is recorded and I usually just watch and delete. I also have two Panasonic DVD Recorders (one HDD/DVD) attached to them but they haven't been used much lately.

I do record the occasional stuff for my mother as she can't even use the VCR and I make a DVD+RW for her to play on a player.

I HATE all of the reality shows that try to make stars out of untalented idiots. There are way too many channels now trying to fill airtime with any show they can find. Used to love A&E channel but now they are wasting airtime on a bunch of crap. "Growing Up Gotti" who gives a rats ass about these spoiled brats whose only claim to fame is being related to a notorious murderer. Where is Columbo when you need him???

To be honest, I hardly watch TV. Dr Who and Torchwood are about the only thing I always make sure I watch. I do like Q.I., the Stephen Fry quiz show but there really is very little else that doesnt insult the intelligence of the average 5 year old. Soap operas, reality shows, game shows and these so called drama series about prisons and footballers wives are a load of rubbish! The one I hate the most is the X-Factor, utter dross!! And as for Gordon Ramsay cooking shows, aaaarrrggghhh!!!!! If he spoke to a lady in the manner he uses in the show in front of me i'm afraid he would have to be taught a lesson in manners! He's just an arrogant bully!! Oh, and just dont get me started on the geordie midgets!!!!! And as for the mockney cook!!! Although he has done some good work sorting out our awful school dinners so I do applaud him for that.

I must say, I was pleased with one of my movie channels the other week. They were showing the film, The Hand starring Michael Caine. That film is rare to my knowledge. I've never seen it on DVD on any region. It only came out of VHS and NTSC laser. The PAL VHS was deleted in the 80s. Anyway, enough babbling from me, I recorded The Hand. That film has a great story to it.
