I have a 100 Mb/s connection (1 Gb/s cable in the street) - but I can't get the US connections to show more than this:

Download Speed: 4914 kbps (614.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 1896 kbps (237 KB/sec transfer rate)

I guess it's slowing down during the connection from Sweden to the US.

But looking as the US prices for connections is a bad joke. In Sweden they more or less give away connections for free.

It does have to go through several HOPS to get there and back.

are they using cat5e or cat 6 ethernet connections?

densely populated urban areas only, 330ft limits?

CAT5e can go more than 330 feet. (Been there done it!)

My mother lives roughly 350 ft behind me and I had her networked with cat5e cable running through the trees and she got a perfect signal.

                On a 60,000Kb/s interface(actual tramsmission) connecting to a
269Kb/s internet connection I doubt you would notice any packet loss.

Chewy, I have looked at those several times. I've actually been to several hardware stores looking for the N connector.

I really want to get a big antenna to stick on my roof.

I have 2 old dish satellite receivers in my shop that I am not using.

going to have to go to a major electronics/electrical supply house

Friend made one out of a smaller can, looks real funky, returned the 90$ netgear wireless signal booster he had bought earlier.

Looks very MacGyveresque. I'll have to keep it in mind.

I don't have a access point, I just have a 4 port router. I think it will still work though.

I wish I could build one high enough and strong enough to pick up some wifi signals 5 or 6 miles down the road. They have 5 Megs down there.
