Or continuing the Antipodean theme, Geoffry Rush (eg Shine), (although Crowe was good in A Beautiful Mind).

Liked that one too! But so sorry, Hanks has never done anything for me. Now Antonio Banderas - thats a different story!

Thro Hank into the Volcano. The DaVinci Code sucked as a book and movie. It would be interesting to read some good theological fiction. I would have cast Snoop Doggy Dogg in The DaVinci Code, or Doctor Dre (He is a Doctor!).

@Blu I had to look antipodean up, (Still wrestling with it), I am American after all. I liked Crowe in a Beautiful Mind, Master and Commander and Gladiator (Though the Fall of the Roman Empire was a better movie IMHO.

            toomanycats,
well... the Davinci Code sucked so much that it made Dan Brown a millionaire.
You are the only one i know that did not like the book.
The movie got mixed reviews. But then again, i think Hanks was miscast.

The book was a good read, but the first novel, angels and demons was much better. They should have made that movie first, then people would be able to excuse the bad sequel. I haven't seen the movie yet, running out to get it today.

toomanycats - if you want a good book, try Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. They write very well together.

I thought the book was drivel as well Hanks has had a lot of stick for being wooden in the DV code, but to be fair is he ever anything else? He doesnt exactly exude charisma from every pore in real life, so theres little chance of him having much presence on the big screen. To be fair he chooses his roles well, and rairly strays from playing the "nice guy". He will never be a classic actor in the same vein as Richard Burton or Olivier, but then theres not much call for that type of actor in these days of overhyped, plotless, FX driven blockbusters.

My dearest Jack Lurker, it is funny you mentioned Tom Hanks pores. It is the best argument against HiDef. His pores really did show up rather well. As the British would put it, "He has large pores". I love the word "drivel", perfectly appropriate. "Overphyped, plotless FX driven blockbusters", yes more, more!!!!

@KaptKopter, Yo wassup dog, I was just postulating my opinionation!!

Yes, "drivel" is a great word with wonderful connotations.
Unfortunately, it is completely misused in describing DaVinci Code, IMHO.

I guess the problem I had with "Da Code" was all the hype. You expect more. In interview I have seen with Mr. Brown he implied he believed all this stuff, more hype. It seems that those who look at it as being another book/movie thinks it's OK, but the believers seem "devoted". I think it was OK, I guess "sucked" was too strong, it certainly doesn't extend to the people who enjoyed it. "Drivel", yeah, I like that. I have enjoyed books that were drivel, some movies too, like "Little Man" for instance.
