States rushing to close door on Syrian Refugees

As a result of the Paris attacks on Friday and the threat by ISIS to attack Washington 23 states are trying to close the door on new Syrian refugees.

From the Washington Post as of 6:09PM:

Governors of Illinois, Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, Maine, Iowa, Oklahoma, Wisconsin, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Arizona, Indiana, Massachusetts, Idaho, Louisiana, Michigan, Alabama, Texas, Kansas, Georgia, Mississippi, and Arkansas — a majority of them Republican — have said that they are seeking to stop the relocation of new Syrian refugees to their states out of fear that violent extremists posing as refugees might gain entry to the country.

Shame the good people trying to flee have to suffer because of these terrorists.

Yep, and all because some fake passports were found near the terrorists, passports that may have been planted by IS to implicate refugees (source: Paris attacks: Syrian passport in Paris may be planted, says German minister).

All I do is I look at what IS actually wants and I do the opposite. IS wants people in the West to discriminate against Muslims, to fear them, to not want them to come to our countries, to not want them to be *in* our countries and to not help the refugees. This way, it fits into their narrative that the West is engaged in a holy war against Muslims, and it helps both their fundraising and their recruiting.

So if we really want to fight IS, then we should be definitely be doing the opposite of the above - we need to show kindness and compassion to Muslims, and also to the refugees who are also victims of IS (remembering that 90%+ of the people killed by IS so far have been Muslims). Otherwise, all we end up doing is to give IS and other terror groups everything they want, and making them even more powerful!

It doesn't matter what the Governors are saying, it's a Federal matter.
They are just Bloviating, trying to get their constituents attention.

@admin - exactly! Even France plans to take in 30,000 refugees over the next 2 years.

@ uufta - agreed a federal matter! Here politicians do what politicians do, - blow smoke

Well, so much for hoping that congress would show some common sense
They are going to put up so many hoops for these poor people to jump through
They will be in refugee purgatory forever...

Obama said he would veto the bill but if I heard right his veto could be overridden. And if Congress does what they normally do they will attach it to something that everybody wants to approve. Politicians

With all the crazy stuff that happened in Paris and now Mali, these nuts are going to make it heard for refugees to go anywhere.
