burning CD-R as if its a DVD-R??

Is it possible to burn a CD-R as DVD format which plays on a DVD player....(so you can have menus at the beginning... even if the length of movie which can be stored is greatly reduced...)

You can create vcd's and svcd's on cd-r discs, provided your dvd player supports the above mentioned formats.
