This is my first DVD authoring job. I will be editing the video on Avid and converting it with Virtualdub or similar software. I'd be most grateful for a link to an explanation of how to do a basic DVD that palys on most DVD players and cDVD-equipped computers with an initial menu to choose from up to 12 different 3 minute short videos and a longer 40 minute video plus plus 10 PDF
files (or any other popular formatted text file that can be downloaded into a computer and, if possible, also be read in a TV screen). The sound will not rquire any mixing, dolby, etc. PCM woul suffice.
Questions
-What PC software should I buy? I willl be editing on Windows NT.
- How long should it take me once I have all the files ready?
-What are the dangers about industrial duplication of my master?
-And, if possible, how much are people charging for this sort of thing in the UK and US.
-Do I really need to do proffing in lots of different systems?
-Any tips on video compositing and postproduction before transfer to MPEG2
I fear this is all rather newbie stuff but were I0 to get good answers and links they will be useful for a lot of other video editors moving into DVD authoring, particularly indy filmmakers and artists... although I'm doing this for a company, the only way to pay for my own, less commercial work.
