What is wrong with my AC3???

I have some AVI files that when i extract the AC3 from them, using Virtual Dub Mod and Author the VOB files using Virtual Dub..... the sound wont work on the DVD!!! I have used the same method as i am using now for many other films but a few just dont work!!! Any ideas???
