jerky reproduction after conversion avi to mpeg

    i have the flwng problem:
    - i did convert an avi-file, film 23.976 fps, to mpeg using
    tmpgenc
    - i used dvd-ntsc template, changed framerate accordingly,
3:2 pulldown when playback, motion search precision highest,
    etc.
    i think i did everything o.k.
when i watch the result, it is pretty jerky compared to the
original avi file where most of the parts with a lot of motion run
just smoothly, while the mpeg-result is always jerky.
could anybody explain me why that happens and how to overcome that problem?
    thank you very much.

"changed framerate accordingly,3:2 pulldown when playback"

That shouldn't be necessary, if you're using (as you stated) the NTSC template. You may, however, have to select the "Deinterlace - Even field (adaptation)" filter...

the source file is non-interlaced material, so probably i must not
use any deinterlace-filter, what do you think?
      thanks for yr assistance.
as soon as i get yr reply, i will try it out & tell you about the result.
