    NEC1300a and DVD-R Prodye 4X

    Hi guys,

i have a problem with the DVD-R Prodye 4X and i don't know why. I've got the the original firmware of nec 1.0b and i was satisfied with it. It burned everything allright and i ordered the same DVD-R last time and everything was ok. But now my Nec 1300a burns all DVD-R of the new order with just 2X Speed. Why? I have changed nothing and i can't explain it.

The Burner is not the Problem Princo and other DVD-Rs are burned correct with 4X Speed but the Prodye Discs are only burned with 2X. Is there any firmware or something which can solve this problem? Or have i to send the discs back to the shop (i don't hope so)?

I like your burner - I have one myself...

Don't know what burning program you are using. Could it be that you are using a demo version of Nero?

You could check out your new discs and your old discs to see that they have the same mediacode on them. Also if there is a 4x write strategy on them.

Use this program - it's freeware.

      Thx for the answer

i tried it and found out that the mediacode is different.
That's the code of the new discs
      Media code/Manufacturer ID POMS3A

and that's of the old discs......
      Media code/Manufacturer ID VDSPMSAB 01

But that information was more interesting for me:

      old discs
      Manufacturer Rated Speed 4.0x 5540KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 4.0x 5540KBps
Available Write Descriptor CLV 2.0x 2770KBps
      Write Strategy Speed 4.0x 5540KBps

      new discs:
      Manufacturer Rated Speed Unknown
Available Write Descriptor CLV 2.0x 2770KBps
      Write Strategy Speed 4.0x 5540KBps

I can't believe it..... what should i do?

"Available Write Descriptor CLV 2.0x 2770KBps"

Sounds as your new discs only will burn at 2x. If they burn correct and you can watch the DVDs I think you have to live with it.
