    I have a LG DR 4812w dvd recorder. Can any one tell me how to tyrn off the copywrite protection, so that i can record movies from foxtel and from my dvd collection so that i can take them with me when i work away

      You probably mean recording straight from another DVD, or a VCR to your DVD recorder. Answer: normally you can't. THere's an addition level of protection in the analog and digital signals located in line 21 , called CGMS Copy Protection.
      If you want to be able to remove that, you need a special box that can strip that off. Note that this is NOT macrovision protection, it's something more sophisticated. Do a search on CGMS to find more...
