    trackwriter error with HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GCA-4040N

hi all - my problem is this - my dvd +rw is "HL-DT-ST DVD+RW GCA-4040N" and has copied and burned dvd's fine up to now using DVDShrink software.
but tried to copy this particular dvd and couldnt, my machine frooze &had to reboot and ever since it wont burn my dvd+r's properly
it burns much slower and just spits out the incomplete disk and gives me an error msg:

    "E80041925: TrackWriter error - Command retry failed - [T7118]"

now i can still play and back up dvd's to hard disk but wont burn! can anyone please help??? - i have a feeling its a hardware problem - will i have to get a new writer/burner??

You never said what program you are burning with and what program gave you that error message.

"its roxio dvd creator 6 that i use to burn and that gave me the error msg "
I have never used or liked Roxio before, I suggest try a more respectable and reliable software to burn with such as Nero or DVD Decrypter. Would be a cheaper option to do that than to go out and get a new DVD burner.

" but thats never gave me any trouble before?"
        That is irrelevant.

I'd try a ReWritable in DVD Decrypter before binning your burner.
This isn't a learning curve ... this is b****y mountaineering!
