DivX Movie comes out darker than original

I'm encoding Star Wars Episode II using Gordian Knot. I have successfully encoded it to 688x288 with a bitrate of 1225 kbit/sec. The quality is great with no visible artefacts. However, the resulting avi file is darker than the original, or possibly the colors are messed up.

This is a frame from the original ripped dvd, copied from Gordian Knot's preview pane. It looks just the same as when playing the VOB:

This is the same frame from the resulting DivX-encoded AVI file, captured from the AVI using VirtualDub:

As you can see, in the AVI file everything is much darker. The sand that was light orange-ish in the original file looks almost red in the DivX encoded version.

    How do I fix this?

I don't use Gordian Knot, so I can't tell you how to remedy this. I can, however, tell you that the second picture is not darker, rather it contains more magenta...
