blocking in dark scenes

does anyone know why I get pixelation(blocky background) on dark scenes. I am currently using nandub(less) flask(more).

I see pixels on gradient backgrounds too, also in DVDs (not DivX), so I guess it's my voodoo3000.... is that so? I just can't understand why. I mean I can display all king of pics and I see no pixel, of course, so I dont understand why with a movie should be different...
