Audio Synch on downloaded file

Ok new problem.

I have downloaded a movie with the audio stretch problem.

How can I fix this? It is ok until about halfway through when the variance grows. By the end of the file it is 2-3 seconds behind the video.

Normally I would recode the audio, but I dont have an "unstretched" copy of the audio.

If the problem is caused by the reason that the audio-stream is 2-3 seconds shorter than the video (may happen with captured video), VirtualDUB can adjust the framerate so that audio and video have the same duration. Should be the fastest method because you don't have to recompress anything. Simply adjust framerate and save audio/video with direct-stream-copy.

No its the audio thats late.

Just the point of view. If the video is captured with a TV-capture-card (not a DVD-Ripp), it can happen that the audio is to fast because the soundcard uses a wrong frequency (44095 instead of 44100) or ther were to many skipped frames. There are two ways to bring audio and video in sync:

1) use a wav-editor to reencode the audio with the same duration as the video

or 2) simply change the framerate. If the framerate is 25fps the new framerate may be 24.998fps (VirtualDUB calculates that for you). The video will play a vary little bit slower, but it is unnoticable. So you don't need to reencode the audio or video. VirtualDUB only needs some seconds to save the new avi.
