inserting image files in DivX AVIs

i'm encoding a DivX AVI and would like to insert image files (like JPEGs) to the movie - i'm gonna try to replace all the frames in a specific time duration in the movie with a JPEG, sort of like exposing the JPEG over the time duration, "covering" or replacing the original frames in the movie. how is this done?

There are loads of plugins for virtual dub. you might be able to use the watermark plugin to do what you want.sorry i have no links.
