composite to DIVX

I want to be able to plug my VCR into my computer and record to DIVX. My Matrox video card accepts a composite video input but records to RGB uncompressed video format which means a huge file size that needs to be reconverted to another format. Is there some software program that will convert directly from the composite video input to DIVX format?
