    interlacing on pal rip

    Hi,
I have just done a rip of a pal film, encoded in divx 5.0 (using the new doom9 method).
The quality of the end result is fine except that the video is interlaced and is showing some degredation. Apart from this, the rip is perfect.

I set the option 'fast deinterlace' when creating the avs file for encoding but the result is still interlaced....

Does anyone have any tips or URL's relating to interlacing problems?

    Framerate used was 25fps (PAL).

    All suggestions appreciated!

I thought most PAL movies are not interlaced and hence need not be deinterlaced?

      Yes, I wish...
The film I ripped is definetely interlaced. It shows clearly on some scene changes and quite a bit with some horizontal motion

Are there ways to get rid of interlacing during the ripping process?

One suggestion that I can think of is all friends dvd:s they are all interlaced but you can't see it very clearly. But it's there.

You could try applying Smart Deinterlacer in Nandub.

Thanks, that was gonna be my next choice...
Will this also work in VirtualDub, or is it specific to NanDub?

            BTW, thanks for the help

              It'll work with Virtualdub too.

the best de-interlacing filter for virtualdub/nandub i have come across are:

de-interlace AREA BASED 1.2 from gunnar thalin
                and
                telecide 1.1 from donald graft

try area-based with settings 15/25 and telecide with 15.

thalin's filter can be found here

                graft's here

simply copy the files into your vd/nandub PLUGIN directory
