    VCD / DivX / M$MPEG v2...

once again i'm a bit confused. I thought VCD quality was not that good but those are just pirates.

It turns out they are good if they are ripped off DVD's. So why don't we just use the VCD format instead of DivX.

Well i thought it was cos of lower file sizes, but this is not the case with me. @ VCD i get 10-11mb/min which is the same as DivX or M$MPEG v2. Maybe my settings are not efficient. I am willing to try something new.

I have to say that DivX is much faster than VCD (Mpeg 1) as VCD takes ages to compress.

I get 6mb a min, and the quality is great. VCD takes longer to encode.

VCD is very good if you have a DVD-standalone because it waorks on nearly every player. For watching on the PC the quality is not good enough. The resolutoion is only 352x288 while DivX can have every wanted res (normaly 640x...). With DivX you get near-DVD-quality while VCD is not as good as normal TV-quality.
