Synch problems MPG->DivX AVI

Hi...I'm using what I guess is a pretty common set up (ATI All-In-Wonder RADEON on a AMD 1GHz machine) to try to get my rotting VHS collection onto DivX. I'm saving the captured files as MPG1 then using the ATI software, which plays back FINE. I then try converting to DivX in VirtualDub. Problem is that once I open the MPG file in VirtualDub, the synch is shot to pieces.

If I try using the ATI software to save as AVI/DivX, the synch goes immediatel.

And if I save using MPG2, I can't open in VirtualDub.

Now, I don't think I have a set up which that outdated or obscure; did anyone have and solves this problem already.

Radeon and VirtualDub

I'm having the same problem. I recorded a movie from the sat and tried to open it the VirtualDub. Then VirtualDub crashes. I can play the file with Windows Media Player, ATI software, and FlaskIt, but VirtualDub crashes.

Any thoughts?
