how to just reserve the right channel?

I wanna turn *.mpeg files to *.avi,coz the mpeg files are mtv,
so i just wanna reserve the right channel.In virtualdub , i chose
audio-conversation,and ticked the right channel,but when i chose
save avi, the virtual says something wrong,and stopped,why?
