    Invalid Page Fault by Divx Player

    Hi. I recently downloaded and installed the DivX Pro Codec 5.0.3 and the Divx Player 2.0 alpha 5 but whenever I close it down I get this error: DIVX PLAYER 2 caused an invalid page fault in
    module KERNEL32.DLL at 016f:bff7b997. I don't get this error when the player is opened...only when it is closed. I have never used it yet to play anything!
    I can repeat this error regardless of what other programs are open or closed so I'm thinking it's an issue with Windows 98. The ReadMe file that came with the 2.0alpha5 and was updated on 6-12-02 indicates that Windows 98 SE is a minimum requirement. When I viewed Divx Player requirements before downloading I thought that it had said that Windows 98 was ok. Anybody running Windows 98 (not SE) and using the 2.0 alpha Divx Player without any trouble? Thanks for any thoughts.
    (Note- my rig is a Pentium III 550 with 128 MB SDRAM. All drivers are up to date and the BIOS is too. Direct X is version 7.0a and a dxdiag showed no problems. I have an OEM ATI Rage 128 VR RL AGP (English) card with 8MB of display memory. The system has played DVD movies and .avi movies (using WMP 7.1) without a problem previously, if that means anything.)

    1) Unless you feel it's lacking something, I'd suggest you stick with Windows Media Player (preferably the older, more accomodating v.6.4 - which can be installed by: Desktop>>Start>>Run and typing MPLAYER2.EXE)

    2) if you read through the various postings regarding the recently released DivX v.5.03 codec, you'll note that it seems to be problematic. Perhaps you should consider v.5.02 for the time being - or my favorite, the original hack of MS-MPEG4, DivX v.3.11alpha

    (Edited for typo)

      Invalid Page Fault cont....

      Hi. Just some followup in case anybody else sees this problem. I can avoid getting the fault if I close the Player from the task bar instead of from the player itself. I don't know what that signifies, if anything, but it works for me.

      setarip- thanks for your followup. On my rig, running Windows 98 (Not SE) I can open WMP version 6.4 whenever I run mplayer2.exe. But it doesn't install it ! It opens it! I can open WMP version 7.1 too, either by clicking on Windows Media Player from my Start Menu, or by clicking on the Desktop Shortcut, or by trying to play a movie. I have actually had both programs opened at the same time without any problems. But I don't get the relationship that you are making with the Fault that I posted about? Are you suggesting that the "kernel 32 dll" error is somehow caused by a compatibility issue between the new Divx and WMP?

      Regarding Divx- I only installed the thing in hopes that it would play an avi that I had downloaded. It wouldn't and nothing else would either until I installed the xvid codec on my computer. Once I did that then the movie played with great quality on WMP 7.1 and on the Divx 5.03, so I see no need for it or any other "Divx" player on my machine! Thanks again for your response to my problem.

        That's all that counts!

        My pleasure ;>}
