MPC or WMP9

I just installed windows media player 9 and compared a small clip for playback (mpeg). The WMP9's image was much cleaner, it just looked better. I was wondering if this is a tweaking issue with Media Player Classic? As a noob I hear mpc is better but wmp9 looks really good right now. Advice?
