DivX 5.0.3 Pro does relegate some of my favorite RC settings to the Windows registry. These settings have big effects on the quality/file size of the encoding, and while removing them does prevent people using the wrong RC settings, it also prevents the tweaking of these settings.

I belive most of these settings can be accessed through the cli interface

I myself have not tried this software yet.
I have downloaded alot of ripping and encoding software and havent tried em all yet.
but am working on it.
right now am usign Smart Ripper. I do like it
plus DVDx 1.6
very nice.
now if I could just figure out why it keeps rippiing the Director track for the sound instead of the movie sound track Id be a hapy man

If you like SmartRipper v. 2.41, you should very much like DVDDecrypter v. 3.1.9.0, it is a ripper/burner and is a freeware and its author, LightningUK, is a regular poster @ the forum and answers some tech. questions for some posters.

dvd decrypter is #1 for ripping, you can rip the files in 1 chunk or 2 you get the idea. And it does'nt take long.
