    DVHelp

    Hey guys I am making a site it's name is www.dvhelp.cjb.net It will be a complimation of guides of all types and links to software. The guides are from Doom9 (which I have contacted without responce yet) and DivX-Digest. Will I need permission to use the guides from here?

    Well I just wanted to inform some people for a very simple but VERY useful site in the making

    a good site may be one which comprises LINKS to most every dv problem one might face.

    thus dont simply copy somebody elses guide (noone likes that of course) but create links to e.g.:

    Ripping with SMARTRIPPER

    Transcoding with DVX

    Transcoding with GordianKnot

    Converting AC3 => OGG

    or

    AC3 DIVX => SVCD

    and so one

    this would be really useful, but stay away from simply copying other guides.

        well you might consider it such

        providing other peoples guide on your page would be plagiarism on the other hand.

        and i think it might be very usefull to have a clearly structured and fast site that helps many users by providing the necessary link to a very certain solution.

        take your time collecting information and links, think about a good order, make sure to provide links to guides that are not out of date, cover as many aspect of DV as possible:

        ripping, transcoding, merging, fixing, cutting, converting mpeg-4

        same for vcd/svcd/dvd/dvb

        audio extraction, conversion, improving, fixing, muxing etc

              the examples i gave in my first reply were meant as such: examples

              make sure to add different stuff on the same topic so your readers will have a choice and not simply got to doom9 guides, digital digest solutions or maybe visit my site.

              include dvdhelp and other good resources you might come across when searching with google.

              and dont forget to create a clear and well structured layout.

                  I'm happy to hear you're trying to put together a one-stop source for reference, I know I'd try to do something of this sort if I had the time =/ You save me the trouble!

                  You should either have all the links you post popup in a new window, or make your entire site framed.

                  Also you might want to consider making some table/gif menus for easier navigation, with a sub-menu at the top mayhaps....

                  Just thought I'd throw in my two cents

                      By the middle of april I will have a domain registered as www.dvportal.com

                      Can anyone suggest on where to get my domain and server? For a pretty good price All I need is 200-500MB and probably 5-10GB of bandwidth

                        That's kind of a broad question to ask...

                        depends if you want subdomains, what kind of services your website needs to run (php, etc), if you're gonna have forums and such....

                        Are you just meaning a basic host that will just hold your files without anything special?

                          I need something with php because I plan on using phpbb forums. Other than that, No all I need is about 200 Megs of space and 5-10 gigs of bandwidth.

                          Oh yeah also a domain name. wouldn't wanna have cjb.net at the end of that one lol.

                          What do you think I will be spending annually on something like this. I mean I know I can afford it but I would just like to know an average price

                            It's been a long time since I've looked for hosts, so I can't suggest any specific sites =/

                            You should be able to get that domain for <=$30 a year, and a basic host from 10-20 a month, depending on what extras they offer.
