Might be a good idea to emphasize on
and other relevant places that the *.ax files must remain in the same directory they were when they were registered. This noob deleted them afterwards (as if they were eg *.reg files), and then wondered why AviSynth didn't work as advertised.
Fortunately, I installed K-Lite codec pack today, and it warned me that the filters were missing. I re-regdropped the files and everything now works as it should.
