    DVD copy

    Hi,

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best program to backup my dvd's?

I dont want anything complicated - with my burner i got what seemed to be a really program called Prassi PrimoDVD, which had a copy dvd button on it. I tried to copy a dvd using this but for some reason it keeps erroring with "not enough hard disk space to make global image" This is crap becuase i have 20gb and the copying doesnt even get to 4gb.

Obviously i dont have two dvd drives which is why im having to go to hard disk first.

Im running XP which might eb the problem as this software V2.0 doesnt mention supporting XP.

What i dotn really want is anything complicated - all i want is a backup of my dvd's - i dont want to add anything. I have Nero - is there a way to rip them to hard drive and use Nero to burn?

Thanks to everyone and happy new year to you all.

i use dvdx to make copies of my dvds (it just encodes a dvd in a mpeg1 (VCD), mpeg2 (SVCD), avi (Divx) file in one step, but i dont know if it works properly with american DVDs, in Europe it works fine *g*)

    Workshop for DVDx:
    www.e-media.at (german site)
Just search for "dvdx" and go to the workshop and have a look at the screenprints.

Nero just burns mpeg1 video files to VCD or mpeg2 video files to SVCD, it cant directly copy DVDs. But u can burn mpeg1 files with sizes of up to nearly 800 mb on a 700 mb cd-r with it.

yeah, might be that the last nero version could make direct dvd copies (dvd images)

i have not tried it yet and i am not sure if it works without probs, but if i got more time next week or so then i will try it

You need to have an NTFS hard drive (if you upgraded from Win98 or WinME, you most likely have Fat32). You can convert to NTFS from teh command line without having to reformat, I belive the command is:

          CONVERT C: /FS:NTFS /V /NOSECURITY /X

Worked for me, as I had the "run out of harddrive space" problem before. It will probably ask you to restart first, just say yes and it will convert all on it's own. It may take a while depending on your harddrive's speed and capacity, but it will work.
